Anyone who watches any news media, including Alex Jones, is just wasting their time. Watching content gives you a fun feeling like youre doing something for society, but really you're just sitting there triggered in your home. The way to change your community is to get out there and take real action every day to improve your community. Nobody needs to watch any news, it doesn't inform, it distracts. You don't even need to watch financial news unless, possibly, you day trade. And in reality you should just have alerts up.

@DrDrew-wb2wm heh, Sad bro. You are so brainwashed by the media that you are triggered and swearing at a Youtube comment. Nobody needs to sit and watch news-filtered BS about "foreign adversaries" compared to working on your career or consuming information that directly helps your life. I already mentioned stocks--get a Google alert ONLY if you are a day trader. Most people buy and hold for the long term after doing real research into the stock. I dont check my stocks daily, that is a compulsion that does not serve you. Instead of compulsively checking prices, you should be reading the financial sheets of potential new investments. I recognize that these hostile and immature comments come from people who are triggered by realizing that a large percentage of their life has been wasted by consuming news media rather than producing or learning relevant information like DIY skills, lectures in experts in their field, etc. I understand you guys have a compulsive addiction to negativity. Hence, you feed on it with the news media, then you spread that negativity all around you, like in your childish Youtube comments. What I am saying to you is that this does not serve your life. I am sorry that the media and society deluded you into thinking that sitting in front of the TV or computer getting triggered is "intellectualism." Its not. Pick up and read a long form book instead, for starters. If you already read 1 non-fiction book per week, then you might have some time to waste on the news media hearing about Hillary's emails, shark attacks, and whether some celebrity did something.

T Youtube does not only contain news media. Go look up "how to install solar panel charge controller system." Do you consider videos like that 'news media' my friend? Honestly I don't really even listen to Joe although Ive seen the entire Elon Musk interview, Paul Stametts, and a couple others. They were all more valuable to me than paying attention to the news.

@joemueller6932 Its much easier to take an educated opinion on an economics issue, for example, because I've read at least 30 full length books on economics written by experts in the field. If you watch the news, you will not be educated to the depth that you need to make sense of these issues. A liberal arts major journalist in a 5 minute news clip is not going to teach you what you need to know. There is an opportunity cost to everything. If you fill your time with nonsense from the news media you're necessarily losing time from higher return areas. The news is shallow... long form reading or long lectures by experts is deep. Anything intended for mainstream consumption will be shallow. Even health and medical related journalism should be avoided. If you see a news article about a recent study that came out, don't read the liberal arts major journalist/blogger who has no ability to interpret it and who is insentivized to scaremonger. Scroll down, find the full study and at least read the abstract and conclusion. Slowly you will get better at reading scientific articles and then you can leave the slanted low IQ journalists with liberal arts degrees behind. We all have minds that are capable of understanding the source.

@Sir_Porridge The news tells you about Trumps tweets, school shootings, shark attacks, and the like. From watching the news, you don't come to learn about the major real trends in the world. You don't hear that China lifted 700 million people out of poverty in the last 20 years. You don't hear about the developments in photovalic panels that have made them the cheapest source of energy generation. What you hear about is stuff that triggers people because emotions like anger cause people to click *share*. Very likely that such stuff will be a distraction.

@Cyrus_II Yeah, classic literature dealing with timeless themes can be valuable. However, I read a book per week for several years and at a certain point I decided I don't need any more fiction in my life. I'm so enamoured by the world around me and I find facts to be just as entertaining that I stick to the real world now. No more movies or sitcoms or entertainment books for me. I'm not saying anyone is a criminal for wanting to relax and escape though.

Education is important, but the media is a poor educator. :) If you watch the news media cover economic issues every day for a year, you still will not learn the necessary economic laws needed to interpret those issues, because the news covers shallow topics and opinion. We actually need to sit down and read books or listen to an hour long lecture by an econ prof in order to make sense of the field. Fleeting shallow news opinion, even if you're exposed to it each day, will never add up to knowing the important principles :) Yes everyone, education and knowledge consumption is important. I agree. I still think action (ie doing good deeds to reform your community's problems) is greater still. Truth is high, but higher still is truthful living.

@BG-gr6vc Yes, don't worry about anything that you aren't taking action on. And even for the things you are taking action on, change worry to courage or excitement.
