@JPJ432 I am working on an LNG pipeline that goes from roughly Grand Prairie, Alberta to Kitimat, BC. Building pipelines through the rocky mountains is harder than you might think. This will take us years and it is 48 billion dollars, the largest infrastructure project in Canadian history. No reason to route it to Alaska since that would be even further.

The only place that even allows upgrading oil refineries these days is in Mexico on the Gulf. Oil refineries can't get off the ground in Canada because a bunch of American environmental NGOs will keep it in legal limbo before construction for years, and then investors will pull out. This is actually how it works for most industrial projects out here.
