  3. The bigger question is this: why do we even use journals aside from organizing publications for ease of finding? I'm always told "impact impact impact factor!" But so what? We've seen shit be cranked out by reputable journals, the peer reviewers aren't paid and stuff slips through cracks, you still have to have a skeptical eye. All it does is maybe filter publications so that it's not trivial to put out bullshit. That is what we are paying ungodly sums for
