  6. Yes it can, and when the market was at its freest, costs were lower and people weren't even really using insurance. Instead there were things like fraternal societies and communities just helping each other out if someone got particularly unlucky. Now we're so obsessed with being independent of anyone around us, we're dependent on the government and corporations, and government makes things expensive by throttling supply directly, and by heavily gatekeeping. You think insulin is expensive? Well why don't you start an insulin company to make it cheaper? Knowing that it's not that expensive to actually produce. Seriously, actually look into what it would take to go from having the inspiration to actually selling insulin to people.

  15. ​ @kellyhallidayiiify No, it's how much. If you eat one Twinkie a day, and that's it, you will lose weight. You will have shit nutrition though, which causes its own problems. Healthy food need not be expensive, it's just that cutting back and not feeling full and high when you eat is hard for a while until your brain readjusts. It's hard because it's literally an addiction, but you can't just not eat in the same way you can 100% stop other addictions.

  17. ​ @ohsweetmystery Correct. It's almost impossible to outexercise eating too much. Most of our energy is spent on basal metabolism. You can run for an hour and nuke that effort by eating a little snack in a minute. It's 100% psychological. It's hard to decrease eating, it's hard to stop addictive foods, and it feels unfair to not eat as much as other people you see. But that doesn't make energy conservation wrong

  18. ​ @Ming1975 This phrasing isn't very clear. The vest way to succeed is to make it easy to do good things and hard to do bad things. If you keep ice cream in the house, stop doing that. Means you have to go out of your way to have ice cream. Don't go grocery shopping hungry so that it's easier to make good choices.
