Well that’s because most people just do not care at all. People do not buy a thing because it’s free and open, they buy it because it’s convenient, gives status, functions well enough without having to go to a shop, etc. almost no one cares about freedom, even in America. That’s what’s really sad

@Patrick-857 People don’t appreciate how many skilled developers are out there who also get sick of corpo nonsense, it really doesn’t take that many people finally being fed up enough to fix a problem created by corpos that no one else has fixed yet

@Abu_Shawarib When I watch on my phone, I literally put it on mute and go get some water or whatever when the ads come on. It used to be that I would just let ads play most of the time, but half the damn time I spend on YouTube is seeing ads now it’s ridiculous
40
The ads still play, they just don’t get paid for it. I get hosting servers costs money, but I don’t want to support censorship so 🤷♂️

8:10, people be ignoring that a crypto mining rig is hella expensive I guess... This is true for any investing, the more money you have, the more money you can make
17
6:10 Well they also could easily conflate correlation and causation. The more ambitious engineers may be inclined to come in more. That does not mean that forcing everyone to come in will make everyone more ambitious…
11
But, time machine strictly works for macs. No other idevices, and not windows or Linux
9
Literally the biggest problem right now with social media is the spread of misinformation, and this was one of the few ways that it was legitimately curtailed
9
@azareii Yes it can absolutely measure height, but whether you have access to or use that info is another thing
8
@@lykkos290You also need to check if it’s patched. It doesn’t happen immediately
7
If you're paying for it and still have to deal with the censorship crap... just why. Why would you give money to a company to censor you?
7
Right, but it’s good that they are marketed to normies so that we even have such a service available, because if that’s all they were ostensibly for, they would not be allowed to exist
6
This is part of why I like ExpressVPN. It was advertised a little, but not much. They’re also pretty open about security audits and giving you tools to test the security
6
And even if you do go through their shops, replacing the battery or screen is about all they will do. Won't even replace their shitty port when the pins don't move because of dirt
4
That largely happened because of all the speculation about how awesome it’s gonna be and getting hyped. Making good money in stocks off of suckers requires suckers who respond to hype and emotion, cf Wolf of Wall Street
4
Plus ya know, the whole Google tracking and censorship shit
3
Funny how we just accepted calling installing programs normally being branded as “sideloading”
3
It’s literally because they got a few bucks for every single lightning gadget sold. That’s a massive amount of money
2
@bouncehouseofficial No, you can only do that if you have a recent mac. You can still build from source if it’s available if you want, but not everyone wants to pay 2 grand just to build apps for their phone lol
2
Backwards compatibility is a hell of a problem
2
@krozareq Well I mean there’s always going to be something, whether we’re aware of it or not. What are you going to do with your knowledge of the Intel ME? Network isolate anything secure? What are you going to do that requires knowing what specific built in backdoor is present?
1
Well what about ending Facebook, the rest of social media? That’s the real cancer, the social media phone addiction epidemic
1
What if, and hear me out here, I want to copy files into or from linux when dual booting? With LUKS, I can still copy data around from a live usb if I know the password. But with bitlocker, idk if you can get that data out without the specific windows installed on it
1
Ayyyy I found this just a week before you posted. Glad to know I can be based all on my own
1
@elijahedwards6571 Can't put links in youtube. Just use non-censoring search engines
1
Instead of moving towards a more self sustaining model that is viewer oriented, providing a service optimized for viewers rather than advertisers, not censoring people andpressuring them to make advertiser friendly content, which people would feel happier to pay for. You’ve got places like Nebula and CuriosityStream and Rumble popping up because of this incessant focus on advertiser optimization. But if viewers are only tolerating you because you’re the main game in town, you’ve gotta make some changes before that’s not the case anymore

More like the glowies finally have leverage over Apple to make them add a backdoor to their closed source system
1
Why?? I keep trying to look at references on wikipedia and the originals are gone and the archive is borked because of these assholes
1
Found the sauce, it's pretty meh. Basically just using AI to photoshop more convincingly
1
Well, it's nice that apple is being punished, this lessens the demand pressure for more open competitors like framework, system76, or pinephone to pop up and take market share. The real punishment for apple would be for people to wake the fuck up and stop buying their products regardless of their bs

0:50 lol she is so out of touch. Just because you click on a video doesn’t mean you watch it. You can see the like ratio and decide it looks sus and go learn more about the topic or creator and decide whether to watch at that point 1:05 Does she think that disliking a video because the viewer thinks the creator is a scumbag is unrelated? What counts as unrelated? I really don’t think people are disliking just because they’re having a bad day or something And you know what else targets small creators? False copyright strikes. YouTube gives a free pass to actual infringement by large cash cow creators, but let’s false reports on smaller creators just slide.
1
Or just, ya know, buy ones that have unlocked bootloaders. People so typically seem to not realize that everything they buy is a vote, and that amounts to a much more significant effect than even a ballot box vote. Especially because you can't tamper with purchase data for long without the house of cards toppling
1
Huh, it’s almost like social media is cancer and we should just let it die
1
If people gave a shit about what they were giving up, Facebook wouldn’t have become so huge. It’s going to take seeing this shit to its conclusion for these folks to listen and not call us all paranoid conspiracy people
1
7:38 you don’t understand, they don’t want you to do that. They just want you to shut up, but your device, and be grateful to the tech gods for the privilege to do so
1
I tried running vscodium and it just doesn’t work as well and doesn’t have access to the extensions that vscode does, which is like the whole reason for using vscode. Unless this has changed
1
Prevaloir Better than relying on 6 people with access to catch it and not be controlled by the feds
1
@socialhostage8534 Write and call your representatives aggressively then. Tell everyone you know. If that’s really how you feel, do something about it
1
Even if the hardware is somehow fixed in future versions, eventually there will be enough pressure for people to work on an open source alternative, similar to what we have for quadcopters and the like, so that people can just trash their compromised hardware and put hardware in that will do as the user asks
