Wages were decreased because jobs shipped away, weak border and women started working, flooding the labor pool, so that now both people have to work. This is why most of the wealthy people want the weak border and low or no tariffs, and push feminism like crazy.

@LAXLIS Incorrect. Addicts need to want to get better to get better, and that frequently requires hitting rock bottom. Also overprotective parents destroy their children's ability to handle themselves. It's people thinking like you with no concern for knock on effects that are a lot of the problem in a wide variety of issues

Oh, and realize that if you don't figure out how to spend all of your funding, you get less funding. So you're incentivized to be inefficient!

@TheKitchenerLeslie Yes! The problem is that people are usually not homeless because they got unlucky with a layoff

9:20 That's a funny way to say "people have to want help to be helped". You cannot fix that by throwing money around

Problem is that everyone wants a cushy manager job, so that best engineer may just quit if they don't get promoted

The expression "i quit my manager/boss, not my job" exists for good reason

What's difficult is that giving money to orgs means most of it goes towards just running the org, but if you give it directly to homeless people... well the reason people are homeless is most of the time not because they got unlucky with a layoff

What a shocker, turns out, there is no free lunch! If there ever opens up an apparent loophole to earn a lot without working much, it will be saturated and not be a loophole anymore as soon as the masses figure it out. Goodhart's law, any measure that becomes a target ceases to be a good measure. The best thing you can for your kid is not push them to college, but instill a good work ethic, so that they'll do ok whatever field they end up in

I mean... neither does anyone else. People mostly buy the cheapest shit they can without regard for how it affects others, and then blame businesses for giving them what they want: the cheapest shit possible, regardless of consequences

9:50 Well, if the housing is so unaffordable, maaaaaybe that should signal to people that they shouldn't go live there. It's one thing if you're homeless, mentally ill, and stuck there. It's another to purposefully put yourself into that position and then complain about it

Supply chain security, and because factory job is better than no job? Covid was. Wakeup call. Plus, this is like people buying slave picked cotton talking about why we shouldn't want paid workers to be making the cotton

I mean... preserving oneself is kinda what we're all doing? We're not exactly working for the fun of it

11:00 hmmm maybe the government should instead help these people move to somewhere more affordable instead... but they wouldn't do that because it would mean actually helping people and not getting as much tax money
