  1. What’s wild to me about this situation is that this started several years ago, it was literally caulked the adpocalypse. People thought that was over dramatic, but it was really about how YouTube caved to pressure instead of standing its ground, and at that moment, we saw this inevitable slow decline would come. Most of the reason I didn't leave is because of the family iTunes/App library, but I never play games and such on my phone anymore, and I just use Spotify for music, so it really doesn't matter

  12. currysini85 Even fresh water can conduct electricity. Water must be very clean to become an insulator. Salt water is a better conductor though. In any case, regardless of who worked on your boat or what parts they put in, water getting into the electrical system is gonna cause you to have a bad time. You could (if you’re a lobbyist) argue that an individual could forget to put the drain plug back in when dropping the boat in the water for this reason, but that’s sorta like forgetting to check if your tires are flat in a car. You’ll notice pretty quick if you forgot, and it can be pretty expensive if you do. And draining the boat when you take it out of the water is like a preventative maintenance thing you should always be doing. Shouldn’t need a service tech to come out every time you take your boat out of the water

  14. Yeah well I didn’t know any better at the time. My MacBook is 10 years old now, and at 6 years a capacitor ruptured on the motherboard. Later I found out from Linus Tech Tips that Apple deliberately runs the fans low so that their computers don’t sound loud, so that they can focus on having their thin sexy design. I had noticed that my laptop always ran sorta hot in my first couple years owning it and so I got an SMC controller program to artificially raise the fan speed. The capacitor that ruptured did so because it got too hot for too long too many times. I hadn’t been using the special program since I figured it shouldn’t be necessary, but apparently it was.

  16. If you can't hear what the yelling is about, that adds a stress factor, because it could be about anything. Maybe about how they shouldn't have had you. Maybe about how they are going to break up. How we are going to have to move across the country, so that I will lose contact with all my friends. The uncertainty causes your mind to come up with the things that frighten you the most. I remember often having this sort of feeling as a child, but I at least had a mom that did as Louis says, being always levelheaded and there for me. So we had the sort of relationship where she didn't care if I went to parties and drank as long as I was safe and it didn't impact my school or work, and I didn't even try to. But if I did, I would've let her know and I could trust that if I needed to be saved that she'd be there for me.

  17. Well my dad has one and it got bricked by an OS update. Technically it turns on and runs, but it is too slow to be usable. And Apple won't allow reverting to an older OS, they require that iOS is currently signed before installing

  19. Central Intelligence Agency I just put linux on a new hard drive I got for my desktop. Took me 15 minutes to download the OS, make the USB installer (which is real easy if you google it, Rufus has a GUI), AND install it on the drive. And then I was able to install steam without even opening a web browser by as you said typing “sudo apt install steam”, although this could’ve been done with a GUI if you prefer. The reason it asks for the password all the time is security, permissions, and keeping you from accidentally doing something really bad. Some of these security features you can tone down, so it won’t ask for your password so often if you really want. Do you not use gmail because google is neurotic about logging into a new device?

  36. I’ll say that the choice of fasteners or using glue instead of fasteners can have a significant impact on repair friendliness for no good reason than to discourage independent repair. Fancy fasteners mean more investment in tools, and with adhesive you generally get it with the part and you have one chance to attach it right.

It’s easy for the right to repair people to speak because they just want to have less waste and give consumers what they want. Not exactly a rocket science argument. They still get to be the good guys though, because they make independent repair sound bad, and they try to make customer experiences with independent repair worse by restricting availability of parts and repair information, which the average person doesn’t know about.
