If you can't hear what the yelling is about, that adds a stress factor, because it could be about anything. Maybe about how they shouldn't have had you. Maybe about how they are going to break up. How we are going to have to move across the country, so that I will lose contact with all my friends. The uncertainty causes your mind to come up with the things that frighten you the most. I remember often having this sort of feeling as a child, but I at least had a mom that did as Louis says, being always levelheaded and there for me. So we had the sort of relationship where she didn't care if I went to parties and drank as long as I was safe and it didn't impact my school or work, and I didn't even try to. But if I did, I would've let her know and I could trust that if I needed to be saved that she'd be there for me.
