  1. Except the primaries are rigged as the parties are private organizations that can run however they like. The will of the voters is routinely overridden in primaries. Candidates that people really get excited about rarely even have a chance because they would upset the status quo, which the people controlling the parties don’t want. And even voting for president in the general election, if you aren’t in a swing state, your vote also is much less significant. And for the others on the ballot, it’s pretty common for most positions to be running unopposed. If you want to have a chance to effect real change, you’re better off focusing on getting involved in more local politics. Speaking at hearings, promoting local legislation, etc
