@houstonbova3136 Because of support for apps and hardware

Because those things don't prod people to buy new machines. If operating systems weren't increasingly bloated, most people would never need to get a new machine except for battery at this point. Most people just browse the web and do office stuff.

Abuse of AI? You mean uses that they don't approve of, the Titans of morality that are running Google...

Was it really a big mistake for Elon to open source it? If he actually believes that the way he’s doing the platform is superior to what anyone else will do with it, then there’s no real fear of competition. We saw this with threads. People are dumb and want to bail on twitter because they don’t like Elon, and somehow Zuck is preferable, so they tried it, but it was just simply a worse execution, because the Zuck just cares about datamining and political influence, which somehow people still have not realized apparently

Why do you want that? Zuckerberg is a damn cancer, and twitter just finally got the censorship problem taken care of, do you for some reason think censorship is a good thing? Do you think giving that much more power to the Zuck is a good thing?

I mean the thing about good code is that it is an effectively indefinite contribution to humanity. You are making a contribution to something that anyone on the planet can learn and benefit from

@42jnyl Have you heard of Unreal? That is open source but has I think honestly one of the best possible funding models. If you’re small fry it’s free but if it’s something you’re making solid money from then you pay a percentage

@42jnyl Another thing to note is that much of the benefit of open source is that there’s no quid pro quo profit incentive. There’s no reason to sunset a useful project because its not profitable enough. And if maintainers decide to move on with their lives, anyone can pick up where they left off. All their hard work isn’t just thrown in the garbage heap of history because of licensing issues
