It often includes the process of gradually pushing the envelope on socially acceptable behavior in a “boiling frog” fashion. People focus on the sex part, which can be more difficult to prove, but grooming is the alienation and isolation part, which may involve sexual ends. And alienation like this is a lot easier to see, identify, and prove. It’s ironic isn’t it? It's similar to how stoic and cynic are not the same as the philosophies of Stoicism and Cynicism. That is, laypeople use language differently from scholars on their topic of expertise
