  2. China has been for years been slowly working a dual strategy 1. Make the neighbouring countries economically dependent on China by increasing trade or direct investment. 2. Slowly claiming the areas surrounding the neighbourhood or make the countries indebted to China. Eg. China's 'Big Four' banks increased their combined exposure to Russia from $2.2 billion to $9.7 billion in the 14 months through March 2023, the Financial Times reported.
