  4. The American banking system turned around very fast because it is super profitable when the loans get paid back. The Irish saddled their banks with the tracking loan albatross, so the banks couldn't make new loans and the economy sucked outside the foreign investment in Dublin.

  5. That's why Ulster Bank and KBC are leaving the country. The government doesn't want the banks to recover and that means that a lot of loans to grow businesses never happen.
