  1. I think there are still things that are kind of glossed over and not fully covered, but generally speaking humans are still grappling with the idea of "trust". Back when I was a maintainer, I: 1. was an official employee of a large company, 2. had to get my keys signed by multiple other known people in the community, and 3. literally physically met some of the key people. So if I step down as a maintainer, I'm not handing anyone any authority until I know with a high degree of certainty who TF u are. And if u come at me wide the certainty level goes way down.
