It was interesting to see the lines. You could spot who was voting for whom.

That sounds like you were about to get murdered.

@lyndagruen2047 It doesn't stop them from asking. They ask all the time. Unless they don't feel like it.

He probably couldn't tell you where his main was. But he can tell you where the nearest hill is that you can slide down if it snows! Wowowowow FUN!
5
I thought you guys wanted the Federal government out of your lives.
4
@SaltySouthTexan Uh, no, they couldn't crank up the power because the plants were all frozen.
3
I haven't lost any power. I think a lot of outages are downed power lines and other weather-related mishaps. Trim your trees, people.
3
Uh, Monday was a weekday. The 15th was like the 3rd day of sub-freezing weather.
3
@alexm566 True, it was Presidents Day. I had actually forgotten. I wanted to go shopping myself but seeing as it was the 3rd straight day of freezing with some of the worst forecast coming up, I stayed home and prepped to keep my pipes warm. I guess running out and playing in the snow mid-freeze was more important.
3
Has the 911 call history/timeline been released yet?
2
@bsboggyboy5432 Yeah I figured there was something fruity about why you were asking.
2
And if you notice his TV was on -- he had power. Maybe he was hoping the TV would keep the pipes warm.
2
@Smokincreekadventures Because they went out to play in the snow.

I haven't lost power at all. The outages in Austin don't appear to be due to the grid or your "green energy" excuse; seems to be more actual physical damage to the infrastructure.

@terezobert2101 Do you routinely let drug addicts just randomly enter your house in the middle of the night?
1
@lovemoviesful2 Yeah I have yet to see Cruz lift 1 finger to help anyone. All he has done is go on an apology tour.

@AJ XOXO Monitored by who?

Do you think the owner would be able to get it repaired faster?
1
@SharpestBulbs Are you an owner or renter yourself?
1
@SharpestBulbs K just wanted to check perspective. Under normal circumstances the owner would call the plumber and coordinate, however these are not normal circumstances. Someone has to be home for the plumber, so coordination with the renter has to happen, especially if the owner is out of town. Having the owner cross coordinate between 6 different plumber appointments and the renter is an added layer of unnecessary complexity. Owner has to call plumber, then he has to call renter, then he has to call plumber back, and repeat that if any conflicts occur, and repeat that for 6+ plumbers. And for what? So he can micromanage?
1
@rebeccaoliver7977 Even if it was a renter it might be stupidly inefficient for the owner to try to insert himself into the middle of the process if the tenant was willing to make the calls. As an owner, I'd be like, "Get a licensed/insured plumber out there, provide me the report and the estimate, I'll review it and approve it." That's where the owner matters, not in the micromanagement of "calling people". Can you imagine if the same owner owned 5 different properties, all of which he needed to try to schedule 6 different plumbers with 5 different tenants to go out and bid the jobs?
1
@rebeccaoliver7977 Well like you said some of this would vary based on contract. I would say tenant makes no judgement calls other than scheduling. The posters above seem to be concerned with "Who doing the calling?", which is slightly inane. I'm saying what matters is "Who's paying?" What matters is "I need a report and a bid." Even if I have a property manager, most contracts are set up such that I make the judgement calls on large bids unless it's some sort of extreme circumstance. Not having water is extreme, but extreme or not, it's not getting fixed quickly anyways, which was my point right from the start. So back to the original point: Who cares "who doin' the calling?"!!?!?

Do the power plant operators bear personal responsibility for not winterizing their equipment?
1
If everybody builds that way, you don't have a lot of choice in the city.
1
What was the big problem again?
1
It's not renewables per se; the missing link is storage to make everything work together.
1
Also nuclear isn't going to help you if your neighbor's overgrown tree falls over and takes down a power pole with it.
1
@bkinouye Getting all of the water out would be difficult depending on the plumbing "design". Plumbing isn't really "designed", it's more like a random ad-hoc implementation by a contractor guided by a ruleset.
