Back when "shot with a potato" was actually a compliment.

I've been headed down this path for many years; I've thought of all of this and more for a new build... But the largest barrier to entry, hands down, is the entire chain of trades, starting from the architect all the way through all the tradies. They just don't get it. So when I tell them I do NOT want a dryer vent penetrating my roof, and that my water utility room should have a drain built in, they can't handle those ideas. It's a madhouse in America when it comes to tradies. I don't know if this is just a local thing or what. If there's any other localities where the tradies aren't completely incompetent, I'd seriously consider moving. Second in line to that might possible be local codes, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

Would have been amusing to compare the price of a Dietz vs solar panel + battery + LED.

Wow that's some horribly primitive stuff going inside there. PWM signaling? Gross.
1
@Foxhood Because you can't pack any other information in there without making it so complicated you might as well just use a regular digital protocol. Like what if you just wanted to add a checksum?
1
@Foxhood Unreliable dirty/worn contacts. And again, no other data can be transferred. There's a difference between poor bandwidth and almost no bandwidth whatsoever. That's what PWM gives you. It gives you one piece of data and that's it, and it can't even check itself. It might also suffer scalability issues down the line. Things should be made as stupid as possible, but no stupider.

Ayyyyyy TC is gaslighting us

Ring ring. Oh, it's for you. It's the late 1800s. They want their tired old practices back. In a modern home it's pretty stupid. I can't believe this practice has followed us this long. Meanwhile they're just recently starting to pull neutrals to switch locations. Maybe in another 100 years we'll learn about latched relays. It's an idiotic industry. The only device I can actually accept this with might be the garbage disposal under the sink. I'm guessing there's probably a better way to handle that too.

They should make crypto currency mining heaters.

Oh man... I have one of these but never thought to use it on a pull top...

Evaporative humidifiers are so disgusting tho. I'm thinking about buying a water purifier to just produce distilled water at home.

Americans gonna American things up.

I wish smol real fridges had soft starts tho. Would make running them on alternate power sources way easier.

Also, maybe the wick/fan assembly should be on a float assembly.

If you ever go solar or a huge battery backup you will need to keep this in mind.

Unfortunately the thermal seal isn't that great because it has allow a path for the indoor condensation to drain outside.

18:00 I dunno u mite be VPN'd into your home network. Also, don't call me Shirley. We need PID controllers, VFDs and different power level settings. If I ever replace my AC/heater, I am going to print a QR code with a link to ur video and stick it on there.

Swamp coolers work, but they have to be very, very large.

Not sure if you explicitly mentioned this, but it's not just about opening and closing the door... Even if you never open it, the magnetic seal isn't exactly the best. On a vertical door, you have the magnetic seal running along the coldest part, whereas on a top-door it's only along the top where the differential is less.
