  6. Once the fanciful projection went to Sardinia, I lost interest. Once kings started intermarrying, with a view to cementing short term political alliances, the concept of a local person inheriting the throne became watered down or lost, with countries having to suffer royals who didn't even speak their language or want to live there. No wonder countries abandoned the vagaries of royalty and its succession in favour of staying with their own and electing heads of state instead.
