If a science teacher tells you to conduct an experiment in magnetism, chemical reactions or vector quantities, you're being invited to discover process and outcomes for yourself. You may be told what to expect, but ultimately it's you who does the discovery, and who acquires the knowledge. You can even go beyond this to posing questions to which no defensible solutions have yet been found, and carry out your own investigations in order to gain new knowledge. Brainwashing is control of your thoughts and beliefs where you have little or no input other than acceptance of the message or instruction. The acquisition of scientific knowledge does not proceed this way, but cults do. If you can't see the difference, I'm sorry but that's not my problem.

  31.  @amyli092  Sometimes I wonder why prominent scientists seem so bent on denying the existence of some form of higher consciousness. The very nature of science is questioning, not foreclosing on a conclusion in the absence of evidence. I am agnostic, simply because I just don't know if there is a higher form there or not, and that's it for me. I am definitely NOT attracted to the various religions which require blind faith in something for which there is patently no evidence whatever - and that is all of them, however much their apologists claim its existence. And, it is quite possible that we are not equipped to apprehend the higher consciousness this side of death, if even then. A riddle, to be sure, and not one worth going to war over.

  43.  @michaelaguilar2461  Scientific theories are not proven or disproven - either they continue to be supported by experiment and observation or they are shown to be unsupportable and are discarded or replaced, in whole or in part. Maybe an example can help you understand. Newtonian mechanics was revolutionary at the time, and was used to calculate the occurrence of things like eclipses and the movement generally of celestial bodies. It is still used as a means of calculating the trajectory of spacecraft in our solar system, among other things. However, when it comes to considering matter smaller than an atom, or velocity approaching that of light, it breaks down, and Einsteinian theory replaces it at that time. Also, a scientific theory must have sound predictive and explanatory power to survive test. Flat Earth crap has neither.
