Yes, there is absolutely no point being 20 points ahead in the polls if those people stay home believing that they don't need to vote. Convincing the public that you are a superior candidate in terms of policy is one thing. Having an army of workers willing to get out on the day and beat the bushes to get people to the ballot boxes is at least as important.
30
Right on - polls don't vote, people do.

@lionofjudah5221 Oh great, the religion card, and totally irrelevant to the discussion.
11
@Just_Reading_Comments This is the first sensible comment I have seen for a while. The winning of the election is only the start. Remember in The Candidate when Redford's character wins the election and asks his handlers what happens next? "What do we do now?" They look at him in bewilderment. That would be Trump asking the Heritage Foundationers what they intend to do once he has delivered them government. Harris has a far better idea of how to rearrange things.
9
@PBcoverlet The worst excesses were restricted to things like Watergate, but nobody could sensibly have predicted that a disaffected, immoral candidate would stoop to the grasping of power by refusal to certify without defensible cause. Also that so many people would appear to support him, even though they were initially unaware of his intentions.
9
Everybody makes people happy, some as they come and others as they go. Having unwittingly reduced the gulf between Dem and Rep somewhat, Trump is defo in the latter category.
6
@Maxy9o Yeah, that's so relevant, just like your orange hero. Not.
4
@lindakiefer6196 He has plenty of powerful MAGA friends in key positions to help out. And Project 2025 spells out how he (or the Heritage Foundation) will take control of so much more.
4
And the mainstream media simply ignores his lies.
4
@emtemple100 And get Vance to make a lot more public statements. That would help too.
3
Big deal, he won't get jail time. The justice that you and I would get is not for him. Think a few thousands in fines. America has surely lost its way, not only by re-electing this mentally incapable fraud but also by letting him escape the justice that he so richly deserves.
2
His legal team will ensure that he is held to account for nothing, until he dies of old age, which isn't all that far away. Real world stuff, unpalatable for some but that's how it will pan out.
2
@sevresblue And you would so prefer Trump to win, eh?
2
So, Trump is 78 but has the energy of a 60 year old, eh Piers? How about he also has the morals of an alley cat and the onset of Alzheimers? No, don't want to talk about that, do you?
1
Trump has NO economic plan. He's lucky to know the date, and where he is. You need to ask the folk propping him up, i.e., read Project 2025. THAT'S what is waiting for you if Trump gets in.
1
@kennyphelps1160 And that will prevent anything remotely resembling justice from being implemented any time soon, if ever.
1
It is quite understandable that committed Republicans call Trump out for what he says and does. After all, he in this race for himself alone and NOT the GOP. The rank self-interest and thirst for revenge shine like a beacon. And Project 2025, which will be implemented if he wins, bears little resemblance to anything that ordinary Americans would want to happen.
1
MAGA thugs will make sure that no heroes emerge. Did any rise up in 1930s Germany to save that country?
1
@jimmymelendez1836 If America felt the need for justice it would never have elected Trump. Get ready for the alternatives, starting with Project 2025.
1
You all knew what you were getting. America truly believes in lies , fear and Trump.
1
If I were Jack Smith I would tell his boss to wind it down himself. Then I would walk away and go practise law privately anywhere away from that cesspit. He'll get dumped anyway, so why hang round waiting for the sword of Damocles to fall?
1
@sevresblue By not discussing Biden's chances of victory with him, which would likely have cost the Dems the election. And it's hardly "stabbing him in the back". Where did he claim that?
1
@RandomMelodies Most of America couldn't give a shit about his felonies or his lies, and is probably looking forward to the many revenges he has in mind. Meanwhile, the people propping him up are preparing for the real changes you will witness, starting with Project 2025. Good luck.
1
Trump's plan was to win the election by using jingoism that appeals to the weak and stupid which, sadly, accounts for a majority of the American public. The consequences will, of course, be negative, and blamed on the previous administration by Trump's spin doctors, with the willing complicity of the mainstream press.
1
How can he poll anywhere near close, anywhere? Is nobody watching him in action??
1
Wait, didn't the American people just say that they really wanted a criminal who lies to them and talks of little more than revenge on his opponents? If the people really believed in the rule of law, and in saving their democracy, they wouldn't have voted for him.
1
Welcome to the USA, where power and influence solve all problems.
1
He won't get the chance. He should withdraw with dignity and go do something else instead of waiting for Trump to sack him.
1
Winning by a margin of 4 points may be pointless if MAGA oriented officials refuse to certify results at up to State level, and Trump is able thereby to steal the election. No wonder he says he doesn't need people's votes, and claims to have a secret plan to win.
1
Be real guys. Trump will never be held accountable for any crimes during or after his presidency. After he leaves office, his legal team will successfully lodge an endless string of frivolous applications for delay until he dies of old age. Invest your energies in the 2028 election. Trying to get Trump will just tire you out for no result. Better still, go out and buy Lotto tickets. Your chances of success are immeasurably greater.
1
If it's as obvious as that, and it is, how come he got elected? Do Americans truly want a liar, conman and criminal for President? It's worse than a C grade Hollywood movie!
1
Guess what...
1
Glorifying the 6 January thugs and promising to pardon them if elected - can we expect an army of MAGA brownshirts to clear the streets, perhaps in mainly Blue states, of suspected Democrats trying to vote on 5 November? Nothing would surprise me. Biden really needs to ensure that the military is ready for any sort of widespread, illegal action aimed at reducing the Democrat vote on the day.
1
@lynettebarrett9642 With any luck the GOP will allow itself to be bullied again by Trump and endorse him again in 2028.
1
And the report will amount to bugger all action. Enjoy the read, nothing will come of it. Jack should have left by now, instead of waiting to be sacked on Jan 20.
1
@roxannevlogs7329 Good luck with all that. America is a land of wealth, power and privilege which enables people like Trump not only to ignore the law but also thrive, even after he leaves. The bulk of your country seems not to give a shit.
1
@beatkins68 That crim will never be brought to account. He's already nearly 80, and his lawyers can keep the courts tied up with frivolous delaying tactics until he dies of old age. And, it seems, most of America wouldn't give a shit.
1
@beatkins68 ...and neither did the recent election.
1
@roxannevlogs7329 ...and they will be released by Trump as soon as possible after Jan 20, to great fanfare and claims of their actions being those of peace loving patriots. America is gradually being changed into a tawdry Hollywood sitcom.
1
Hands up all those who recognize the rise of Nazism in Germany in the thirties, about to happen in the US. If that's what you want, elect Trump. He wants nothing to do with elections and has publicly promised his followers "no more need to vote" if he wins. Vance also has indicated that Conservatives must wrest control away from Democrat power, and he wasn't talking about doing so via free and fair elections either. Having the majority of Americans on their side seems almost an irrelevancy. Does America REALLY want to go down that road??
1
Nothing crushing here for Teflon Trump. He will pardon himself, regardless of any convictions, and when he removes Jack Smith there will be nobody willing to peer over the parapet.
1
@iyamwhatiyam547 How can 1% of sane Americans have any time at all for this self-obsessed man?
1
You all had it delivered to you and you chose to elect someone who lies to you about everything. You therefore have no idea what will happen in the next 4 years - unless you read Project 2025. You did read it before voting, of course...
1
Because Trump would make sure that anything started today would be delayed until, well, forever.
1
@Cary-p6g Who?
1
And his report will be nothing more than entertainment, with no prospect of action coming out of it. Well done America.
1
He's lucky if he knows where he is, or what the date is. Asking him to define a simple concept like tariff is like asking him to decline Latin verbs.
