The problems are enormous. For instance, the only generation of astronauts guaranteed to have sufficient resources, knowledge, motivation and intelligence to see the mission through is the first. If you want to let the crew interbreed, your 100 generations are going to require a huge supply of healthy and unrelated companions or you'll fairly soon get interbreeding issues, like diminished intellect and health problems unlikely to be successfully managed. Plus, where are you going to store/produce enough food and drink to feed the hordes required to avoid the issues surrounding interbreeding? Cryosleep? Not achieved yet, and in any case, how would the craft be managed in the event of faults occurring? Nah, not gonna happen. We are well and truly stuck here on Terra Firma until we come up with a solid solution to the problem of getting to Alpha Centauri, or any other star system, in a very short period of elapsed time (from the perspective of the crew). That's right, the folding of space/time, or harnessing wormholes (if they exist) are just two of the avenues to pursue.

@luckyhaskins69 You've had a great time, denying everything offered and making wild claims of your own. Time now to show us YOUR proof that your flat Earth exists. No, not just more globe denial, evidence FOR your fantasy. Let's start with your Big Ice Wall. No flat Earth without it. Where is your incontrovertible evidence for the thing that holds back your flat oceans? And no, not just photos of random icebergs or the Ross ice shelf - proof that your wall exists, showing how it was measured and the compass bearings taken while recording its length. But you can't, can you? Wanna know why - it isn't there. Antarctica is there, all of the continent, but no big ice wall. But you believe it's there, don't you? Why? Because one of your priests on an FE shitvid convinced the weak and stupid that the wall is there, but guess what - nobody is allowed to go look for it! Wow! So how do he "know" it exists? Um, somebody somewhere said that Captain Cook or Admiral Byrd or someone said it's there...do you realize just how dumb all that is? So, what does that tell us about you? Go on, have a guess.

@stephenlomas9418 If you're referring to flat Earth beliefs, you need to understand that 100% of FE videos devote their energies to convincing the weak and stupid that the Earth is not a globe. Not one of them provides a shred of what could be called evidence" FOR their fantasy flat Earth. Like that big ice wall, for instance. Believed in, referred to in hushed tones, but NEVER seen, photographed, measured, or in any way verified. If you want the FE shite to achieve the status of a science, it must accurately account for all observations (both predictive and explanatory) using the tools of science and not those of religion, magic, bald faced assertions and gratuitous denial of those accurate predictions and explanations that do derive from what is known as science. Just nod if that makes sense to you.

@humidifier8914 And STILL we allow them to set the agenda. We try to educate them, they deny our efforts, we try again, they refuse to accept any of it.....and so on it goes. Sooner or later SOMEONE will set out the problem clearly, and refuse to play this silly "prove the globe" game that nobody wins. The Earth is a physical thing, with identifiable, measurable properties. Wanna claim it's flat? Fine, then go get your evidence and show us. We have plenty of photos of the globe Earth, none of which are acceptable to flattards. Demand to see THEIR photos of their flat Earth, the measurement of their Big Ice Wall, their "dome", etc. And refuse to play their silly games until they come back with refutable evidence. Until then we're all just pissing in the wind.

If a citizen runs into another car, the cops are all over the driver - DUI, drugs, the works - the fault is 100% the driver (and maybe it is). However, if a cop drives into a parked car, immediately the cops are asking how this terrible thing could happen, what extenuating circumstances contributed to, or caused, the accident? Who else can we blame? Did someone sabotage our patrol car? Etc, etc, etc. And when it's blindingly obvious that the cop driving was at fault, it's "OK, come and get us. We're not saying anything. And good luck getting anything out of us." Corrosive mindset.

I'm not convinced that the science being taught in our schools is any better or worse that 50 years ago. What HAS happened is YouTube. Many thousands of unhappy, simple folk who did not do well at school are being encouraged by YT charlatans to believe that schools are just part of a huge conspiracy to keep these poor folk misinformed and downtrodden, and these same charlatans have offered a number of simple techniques to help them "level" the playing field. In relation to the shape of the Earth (and the moon landings) it involves ignoring conventional science and math and simply chanting the mantra supplied, which both imbues a sense of superiority and makes the disciple feel that he/she has, at last, a grip on things that has thus far escaped them. No education needed, no evidence needed, just chant the mantra (e.g., show me the curve, perspective, buoyancy and density, etc) and all will be well. All very sad, and it is so seductive that it has captured many thousands of disciples keen to spread the word.

You might be happy to know that the USA was NOT the first into space. In fact, until they landed the first person on the surface of the Moon, they ran second to the USSR in most things space related: Sputnik, first living thing into space, first man, first woman, first Venus fly-by, first EVA, etc, etc. No wonder they focus on Apollo 11, and it did land on the Moon, despite your most fervent wishes to the contrary. Which is good, very good for the Academy.

@whatisdoneinthedarkwillbeb9204 You really love playing your "prove the globe" game, don't you? However, you have zip evidence FOR your fantasy flat Earth. Where is your solid evidence for your Big Ice Wall, or whatever holds in your fantasy flat oceans? None, right, and not interested in looking for any, right? Dumbass flattard. No flat Earth without it, but you believe that it's, er, um, somewhere down there, I think, oh yeah, that's right, Captain Cook or Admiral Byrd or someone traveled to it or along it for a million miles or something, I read about it on YT somewhere... Take your flat Earth shite to a different chan where there are dumbasses like you who specialize in denying the fucking obvious.

@Zee Jay The evidence is there but you, like all flattards, choose to deny it all. However, what neither you nor any flattard has done, or can do, is provide any evidence of your own that shows your ice wall perimeter to exist, or your dome, or your edge (if you want to believe in them as well), or your flight plan for Sydney to LA, or your Sun disappearing as a dot at sunset, etc, etc. So how can we critique your evidence if you won't produce any? Pathetic creatures.

@mrhawkyoudown6333 You do like to encourage others to "do the math" and other forms of testing. OK, if there really is no curvature, and the Earth is really flat, how about YOU show us, conclusively, what it is that holds in your flat oceans? No, don't just refer me to YT shitvids, show us your big ice wall - all of it, not just a couple of photos of icebergs - and show how you measured its length. We can start from there and examine your next project - a working map of your fantasy flat Earth, so that we can compare your projected flight times and distances between a few cities like London, New York, Sydney, Johannesburg, and so on. Are you able to manage any of this? Mmm, thought not.

@poldariser8686 Wisdom is not the same as science. Science describes, among other things, the world in which we live and how things work. It's a moving feast, if you like, where we replace older knowledge with new, if necessary, and is always trying to understand the cosmos better. The bible addresses different topics, and is fixed in time, so if you like that sort of thing, fine, but it's not at all science.

@djd1335 Their favorite game is the "prove the globe" game - in fact, it's their only game. Pity they have failed to land a single punch, but they think they have, which is, in itself, an indication of their feeble mental skills. What they can not, and won't attempt, is the game of "prove the flat Earth without criticizing the globe". They have never attempted to establish just what holds back their alleged flat oceans, just for starters, preferring to rely on photos of random icebergs or the Ross ice shelf. A pitiful subspecies, for sure.

@yassassin6425 "Something's not right, to be honest." This is the critical comment, and applies to all of these moron conspiritards. It seems to start with their believing that "the Government", NASA, scientists, teachers, and other powerful influencers in their lives, have been lying to them all the time, all their lives, for reasons that they cannot enunciate, and this general feeling that "something is wrong here" permeates their world view. Charlatans on the internet capture these simple souls and sell them beliefs such as Moon landing denial, 9/11 denial, flat Earth, antivaxx and sundy other crap, usually for profit. Adherents to these belief systems are impervious to evidence to the contrary, and prefer the company of like minded folk to that of people who try to educate them. Endless repetition of questions, followed by denial or avoidance of the responses addressing the questions, seems to be a feature of this. Among other annoying characteristics of conspiritards.

@PLANATE VERITAS 4.0 The only evidence you need to collect is the length of the Big Ice Wall and the compass bearings taken when traversing its length. If the flattards are correct, and you turn East when you reach the Wall, you should be heading roughly ENE (left) continuously until you arrive back at your starting point, having covered, say, around 100,000 miles (or whatever they claim). If you find that instead you have been traveling in a rough circle to your Right, and that you have traveled only about 16,000 kilometres, guess what - you have just circumnavigated the continent of Antarctica, and the Big Ice Wall holding in those fantasy flat oceans is just a myth. THAT is the only research worth spit. Of course, you could save yourself a lot of expense by accepting that NASA has published some excellent pix of the continent from space. But first you need to remove the conspiracy goggles that color your view of the world.

Reminiscent of the early radical Behaviorist belief that the mind, at birth, is a tabula rasa, or blank slate, on which all knowledge is imprinted by learning. It was also believed that all behavior was reactive, shaped by its environment, and if an organism argued for an active, intervening consciousness, its contents were believed to be "the steam above the engine", or epiphenomena, and not contributing at all to the subsequent behaviors emitted. Fortunately, psychologists of a different opinion were able to show that we did, in fact, bring a lot to the table at birth. The whole debate is not new of course, the nature-nurture issue being of long standing and passionately pursued by its various stakeholders (originally philosophers) for hundreds of years.

@Tsudico You need to understand that flattards can only function if they attack the globe model, even though all attempts have failed, and are doomed to failure. They comfort themselves with a long list of flattardisms such as "show me the curve", "perspective", and so on, as if these will somehow "prove" their case for them, and decimate their opponents. Poor sad creatures. What they will NEVER do is present their own evidence for their flat Earth, namely, an ice wall holding in all their oceans, or their dome, or their edge, if they want them to spring into existence as well. You simply will not find one willing to do these, the simplest (yet impossible) of things.

The US was certainly the first to land humans on the Moon, and return them all to Earth, and six times, as you say. Quite an achievement, especially at the time. However, before you wrap yourself in the flag, you may be interested in discovering who was first to achieve all of the space related objectives prior to Apollo 11, like first satellite, first Venus flyby, first man and woman into space, first space walk, and so on. A little sobering.

@wfla2285 Also disturbing is that more and more YT influenced people are believing that education is unnecessary and that all that is needed is to bring one's powers of observation to bear on any topic for it to be correctly apprehended. Like, for instance, the flat Earth advocates exhorting their followers to believe, for instance, that because the horizon appears flat, it is, in fact, flat. Even more disturbing is their ability to hold sway with their pupils by producing ad hoc rubbish to replace centuries of scientific endeavor. Putting aside Newton's descent into alchemy, this frightening trend is not helping educators, many of whom are already encountering aggressive parents in our schools who are trying to push antiscience such as antivaxx, creationism and, last but not least, this flat Earth shite.

@billyfubar2748 Billy, FE is only concerned with conspiracy theories that have nothing to do with the shape of our planet. They are designed to get your attention. Once they have succeeded, then they get you believing that the Earth is not a globe. That is the "prove the globe" game whereby you are instructed to reject all evidence that shows the Earth to be a globe because - well, because "the government" has supposedly programmed you to believe all the globe stuff, and that's bad, therefore you have to reject everything your teachers taught you. Can you see how people get sucked into this poisonous mindset? However, none of these FE vids give you any evidence FOR their fantasy flat Earth, which leaves you more than a bit confused, and lots of poor folk end up going round in circles being misled by these charlatans. There is, in fact, NO evidence for a flat Earth - no flat oceans, no big ice wall, no "dome", and there is lots of crap "science" to keep you hooked. If you find yourself being attracted to the FE shite, just start looking seriously for their ice wall holding in their flat oceans and you'll find that instead of evidence, all you'll get is crap about not being allowed to go take a look in Antarctica, etc , etc. Seriously, it's one big mindfuck. Don't fall for it.

@yestervue4697 So, your Earth is flat, eh? Great, that means that your oceans are flat as well, and there is also something holding them in. Right? Good, now, where's the thing that holds in your flat oceans? A Big Ice Wall, right? OK, now, let's see your solid evidence for the existence of it. Small problem - nobody has ever seen it or recorded it. But, since you have all the answers, you obviously do, so let's see your evidence! What's that, you don't have any, and can't find any? Gee, I wonder why not, you dumb flattard prick. Go back to school and learn something useful.

Well, the poor sods have been programmed to reject anything that could possibly show that their fantasy flat Earth doesn't exist. So, space doesn't exist, which means that they aren't allowed to accept any photos of Earth from space. NASA is Satan personified, and seems to be responsible for every evil thing that happened for the last 3000 years. Therefore, flattards are definitely NOT allowed to accept any footage from NASA. Also, the ISS is allegedly filmed in a Disney studio, with wires holding everybody up. As for down here, Antarctica is a place guarded by the government/NASA/penguins, etc, and anybody trying to go there to find the edge/the Big Ice Wall/the "dome" will be turned back/shot/etc....do you see where this is going? Flattards must be the most comprehensively brainwashed bunch of morons on this globe Earth - can't go to Antarctica, can't accept that space, or footage from there, exist. Can't accept anything that scientists tell them, etc, etc. How very convenient for their FE priests who have them tied down so tight. I'd feel sorry for them except that they are so convinced they are right that they are mostly downright abusive and mindless in conversation.

The people driving the FE bus very cleverly tap into the large well of suspicion that there are various conspiracies afoot, and that act to keep the poor and disenfranchised in their place. The locus of these conspiracies is, variously, "the government", scientists, teachers, "the illuminati", and more. Having captured their audience they then deliver the hard sell. The FE vids that abound are quite attractive to those whose intellectual grasp of science and math is minuscule, and who passionately believe in these supposed conspiracies. They offer apparently plausible criticisms of the globe Earth, and argue that neither science nor math is necessary in order to "explain" natural phenomena. That they offer nothing to show that the Earth is, in fact, flat, seems not to be a problem for these poor succulents, many of whom gladly donate their hard earned in order to feel that they belong to the movement. They are provided with a raft of mantra to be used either as "explanations" or as a mindless defense against attempted education. Poor sods.

@jimmeisner1479 What a pity that you flattards can only play Dubay's pathetic "prove the globe" game, wherein you patiently reject all evidence proffered. What you CAN'T do is show us YOUR evidence for your flat Earth. For instance, where's your evidence for whatever holds in your mythical flat oceans? No curvature means flat, right? So, what's holding in your flat oceans? You dumbass, you haven't even thought about that one, have you? Now, let's see what weak as piss explanation you have for it. Oh, that's right, you're not allowed to go look for what you believe exists, are you? Morons, the lot of you. Welcome to the cult.

@yestervue4697 Debate, what debate? A debate consists of two (or more) parties bringing evidence for their position, and when both have presented it, both can attack the position of the other/s. I can point you to plenty pf real evidence for the globe Earth, none of which you want to accept. You, however, bring NOTHING to the table, only baseless assertions. Where is your footage of your Big Ice Wall, your "lands beyond", your "dome", and anything else you'd like to claim exists in your fantasy world? Nowhere, that's where, and none of your blustering or ad hom can stand in its place. Goodbye, flattard moron.

Rajeev Vij It would suggest that political affiliation and belief in a flat Earth are orthogonal to each other. You don't need a brain to believe in a flat Earth, or to vote Democrat/Republican. Something else brought the dumbasses to their FE commitment. Maybe it's a transplanted prior belief that they have been lied to all their lives by "the government, Jews, teachers, "the illuminati", scientists, NASA, etc, etc, and that they must reject all messages from those sources. Then in jumps the cult leader of their choice, who promises to let them in on the greatest secret known to humanity, and away they go, preaching the message.

@Zripas He may be suggesting that flattards are just one subgroup of people who have been led to a set of irrational beliefs by someone who has captured their attention first by cashing in on their belief that they have been, inter alia, lied to all their lives by "the government", and other authority or influential bodies, real or apparent. Having zero math/science skills merely makes the capture that much easier as, in this case, they are offered a means of "levelling" the ground by giving them pseudoarguments that are claimed to be superior. Vids by those claiming conspiracies surrounding other highly visible topics such as 9/11, COVID denial, antivaxx, moon landing denial, etc, show similar results. Adducing solid evidence against, or requesting same in support, have no impact on the converted. You can't remove with evidence that which was put there by faith.

And who in their right mind would share the skies in a drone with Joe Average, who may well be pissed, angry, partially sighted, etc, etc, in drones going to work, home, visiting friends/family, etc? No thanks. It's dangerous enough on our roads in 2D without adding the 3rd dimension. Also, who would want to live or work on the ground underneath sky shared by multiple Joe Averages? Not me, thanks.

They really shoot themselves in their collective foot. For instance, it would be really easy to claim, as cavemen presumably did, that the Sun revolves around the Earth, and that it sets from the bottom up, but noooooooooo, they have to claim that the Sun moves away from the observer until it disappears as a tiny dot - which it clearly does not. Just how dumb do they think we are, trying to sell that to us, and how dumb must they be to actually believe that crap. It's not a competition between two disparate sets of explanations for the same observations. They invent objects and events that do not exist, provide zero evidence in support, and wonder why they cannot make any headway in "debates". No wonder they are the butt of so much derision and hilarity.

@scarlett8960 This is the gold standard for flattards - simply deny all and every instance of evidence demonstrating that the Earth is a globe, that space exists, that videos from space are anything other than CGI. Contrast this with their 100% reliance on the say-so of their FE priests that the Earth is flat, with not a shred of evidence for their baseless assertions. It really isn't about the shape of the Earth, as Dave says - it all stems from a belief that there are conspiracies afoot, propagated by "the government", NASA, scientists, teachers, Jews, "the illuminati", etc, and the FE priests skilfully massage this state of mind to produce an unshakeable belief that one of these conspiracies concerns the shape of the Earth. Sadly, it seems that the weak and stupid are the most numerous of the sheep being shorn by these charlatans.

The IT company that developed the program would defo have had remote access to the production database, even if only to be able to make program changes after the software was rolled out. That's usually how things go. No database of that size can be bulletproof, or require no enhancements, after rollout. And if anybody else had remote access, or in-house (PO) access, the developers would have been the ones to make this happen. And, if any changes were made remotely, the logs would show who, when and by how much. If money was diverted from subpostmaster funds to a PO (or other) destination, guess what, the logs will show that as well.

And why would Trump pick Vance as his running mate? Could it be that he sees in Vance the Trump of 40 years ago? Fire from the hip, make it up as you go along, attack your opponents personally, make policy claims without knowing the first fact about the policy being addressed, etc, etc. Neither Trump nor Biden was a sensible choice for president in 2024, which leaves us with the VPs on offer. Hmm, let's see, which one has the ability to manage the job and present a uniting front, and which one has nothing beyond personality politics? Yep, you got it.

@bellybutthole If you research the topic you'll find that people with very high intelligence usually have a voracious appetite for knowledge, which can be very wide ranging, more than many people think. Some of them collect PhDs in a variety of disparate disciplines, maybe out of curiosity, which is strong in them (as well as the Force). Mere mortals may think they know a lot until they meet one of these rare creatures, and if they have the intellect to recognize genius, retreat sensibly, or at least treat it with respect. In the current context, flattards who have been trained by Dubay to spout his FE "prove the globe" shite, and to denigrate the efforts of well meaning educators such as Prof Dave, Vsauce, SciManDan and others, unfortunately for them don't realize that they are well out of their depth when it comes to math, astronomy, and a heap of other scientific disciplines. They are so unaware that the Dunning-Kruger Effect is aptly applied to them.

@renemunkthalund3581 If your "sample" is everyone, what you are doing is producing population parameters rather than statistics, which are based on samples derived from populations. The raw scores are irrelevant until standardized, at which time you calculate (arithmetic) mean and standard deviation. Given that test scores are normally distributed (i.e., the Gaussian distribution), you can show that any given raw score equates to a position on that scale, under the normal curve, and you can call the score "IQ" as it compares with others on the same scale. Normalized ability test raw scores, by definition, have an arithmetic mean of 100 and a standard deviation of (usually) 16, so a standardized score between 84 and 116 is considered to be "normal". Those scores falling at or below 84 are considered to be below normal, statistically, but the real meaning of this sort of thing has been the topic of discussion for a very long time. Psychs have been examining intellectual abilities in a much broader fashion for many years now, and the concept of IQ perhaps has rather less heuristic value than previously. Also, the concept of IQ as a simple linear scale has been considered not to be very helpful, especially when the complexity of intellectual tasks (e.g., the transition from arithmetic to abstract problem solving and conceptualization in math) becomes much greater, and requires different, rather than simply more of, the skills required to perform at lower levels. But I digress.

@Cardinal RG Sorry to hear about the shoes. Try to be proactive, make a note of change of something like hair, and when it appears to be freshly permed (or whatever change seems for the better) just casually mention that it looks nice today. Or, if earrings are different today, say that they look nice and suit her <insert dress, hair, skin color, etc>. You can't go wrong, especially as, being a pilot, your color vision is normal and you can't fuck up like I can. Brownie points await, and the shoe sins will be forgiven.

@maximilianodehabsburgo3206 Questioning is good, but settling for bullshit explanations of reality, like flat Earth beliefs, tells us that your powers of crap detection aren't much chop. Most flattards start with believing that they have been lied to all their lives, by "the Government", NASA, Jews, teachers, scientists, etc., on just about any topic you can think of, and that world wide conspiracies abound. It's a small step from there to being led to believe all sorts of "explanations", like antivaxx, flat Earth, 9/11 denial, moon landing denial, COVID denial, and so on. If you feel drawn to these "solutions", just know that you have been sold a heap of trash by people who definitely do not have your best interests at heart.
