  1. Robots don't need to be humanoid for people to anthropomorphize and empathize with them. People will attribute human or animal like behavior to something as simple as a roomba, which can just barely be classified as a robot. Like being scared or grumpy. Hell, people will do it with computers and cars. Personally, while I detest the company for their treatment of their workers, I think Amazon's Kiva autonomous pallet carrying robots are adorable.
