  1. Personally I have to disagree with the commonly held notion that romance languages are automatically beautiful just because they are romance languages. I think French sounds pretty atrocious. In fact, if I wasn't legally obligated to name Danish as the ugliest language on account of me being a Swede, I would say that French is the most unpleasant language to listen to. Spanish is pretty nice, though, and so is Italian.

  2. But the harsh, abrupt, authoritative German being barked out is the best type of German . . . Also, German is the language that sounds the best when swearing. Though Cockney English is pretty good too.

  3. Swedish was a gendered language back in the day. Modern Swedish doesn't, but there are vestigial leftovers. Take the word "vän," or "friend" in English. Today anyone will just be vän, but there is still a word specifically for a woman referring to another woman as friend, väninna. However, if the same word is used in relation to a man it is instead a polite reference to a mistress.

  4.  @pinguinobc  We have a lot of sibling love here in the Nordic countries. We Swedes say that Norwegians are dumb/silly and that the proper way to speak Danish is by stuffing a raw potato in your mouth. Meanwhile they say that Swedes are stuck up and arrogant. No one says anything bad about the Finns because a) They're fun people. b) A pissed-off Finn is is scary. And then we all spend an afternoon in the sauna.

  8.  @mikeyrambo2742  No, the difference is not in our tastes, opinions, or in our senses of humor. The difference is that you hold some things too sacred to be joked about if it's "too close" to something you hold dear rather than everything being capable of being criticised or being made fun of.
