  3. As a direct answer to Callum's questions, we didn't want those things because we didn't NEED those things. In 2010 a 16 year old girl could walk alone at night basically anywhere in sweden except like two areas in two cities, without fear of anything except wildlife. Where I live that is still the case, but our municipality covers a few dozen kilometers and only has about 5500 inhabitants in total, in the larger cities it's a bit different.

  12. That price tag is pretty reasonable for such an utterly gigantic bronze cast. Casting bronze, especially in large pieces, is really difficult and expensive. 10 mil might be a bit much, but adding a sign with an arrow pointing toward it with the word "ART" on it seems to make politicians sign and extend blank checks on reflex, like when the nurse bonks you on the knee.

  14.  @BringDHouseDown  Most people aren't mature enough to handle one other person in a relationsship. Adding one more intimate interpersonal relationship for each of them, plus two relationship for the third person, making for a total of six social dynamics, all interacting with each other in a chaotic and difficult to predict manner will not make for a successful relationship. If everyone is a mature person willing to communicate openly and honestly and willing to compromise and who each care for the other two in the relationship, it can work. That's a lot of ifs, though.

  16. The thing is, it isn't the plastics that are the problem, it's tossing them in the sea that's the problem. It gradually grinds them into microplastics from contact with each other and various other debris, which get taken up and incorporated into single-celled organisms, which gets eaten by something bigger that goes one to eat more of them, concentrating the microplastics, then that gets eaten by something bigger, which goes on to eat more of them . . . It's the same as heavy metals. It gets more and more concentrated the higher up in the food chain it goes. Eventually it gets to fish and then humans and birds eat the fish. Humans shit and birds die, spreading it inland, where it gets taken up by new single-celled organisms to repeat the cycle. Burning plastic for power and heat, assuming you have filters on the chimneys, only contributes to carbon dioxide and not to air pollution at the same time as preventing microplastics from forming, while putting plastics in landfills prevents them from moving about and getting ground into microplastics. Recycling is also a thing. We can have plastics as long as fuckers stop dumping trash in the ocean.

There is a story that was posted on 4chan (yes I know, just bear with me) supposedly from one of the security guards on the island, detailing how he first got noticed and hired by Epstein, eventually culminating in the events that lead to him becoming trusted enough to work on the island, a few of the things that happened on the island, the danger of working there even as a guard, how he drank and drugged himself every night so he could actually sleep, etc, ending in how he was, IIRC, going to kill himself after posting. The thing is that the account had accurate details and descriptions about the place that supposedly hadn't been revealed to the public yet at the time this story was posted, giving credence to it being a true account from someone who worked on the island. The details of what he did for and saw while working for Epstein, even before he was trusted enough to work on the island, were pretty fucking awful.

As for voting, whether voting rights are lost when becoming a felon, when, and if, they are restored all vary depending on the state. Which is insane, but it's also insane that you lose the right to vote in federal elections if you move to Puerto Rico or American Samoa, both governed by federal US law. You do avoid having to pay federal taxes in those cases as well though. No taxation without representation, etc. 🤷 The US is insane. And yes, a convicted felon can run, campaign for, win, and be president from a prison cell. As far as I understand it, Trump can't pardon himself in that case, as he was convicted in a state court and not a federal court, as the president can only pardon people of federal crimes not state crimes. And lastly, yes, youtube sucks.

  34. Not to point fingers, but isn't the usual explanation for the state of African and the Middle East that they were colonized/ruled by European states? Wasn't a lot of Asian, the Caribbean, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific island nations also colonized/ruled by European states? Sure, plenty of them aren't exactly paradise, but compared to African and the Middle East they are doing relatively well as far as I know.

  35. They never grew as a person past highschool and still operate with that mindset. Also, children are framed by society as an inconvenience to women, wether it's to their careers or private lives. Abortion and birth control pills are framed as the solution. This shapes how people view children once they have them. Not everyone, instinct is pretty insistent, but a lot. A pet you get only when you want it and if it's a dog it will love you unconditionally unless you mistreated it severely and continually, while cats are so low maintenance that it's barely more effort than a guinea pig. Children are a delight but can be hard if you don't know how to deal with children. Also, once you have them you are not the center of your life and some people don't know that, resent it when they realize, and transfer that resentment to their children.

  37. If being a teacher was seen as something to aspire to in the west it would be. We only value those who do. Those who teach are given praise and honors at events and political rallies, when people can be bothered to remember they exist, and nothing more. There is no respect for teachers and no benefit in becoming one except internal fulfillment, so the best do not become teachers, the teachers get worse, and the spiral into today and into the future continues. The modern education system needs to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up, not just because the system is rotten to the core and unfixable but also because people will never respect or trust a version of the old system. If you see the same people sitting behind them, what difference does a different sign on the desk really mean?

At least they won't tell you that there's no tables available when the entire restaurant is empty, or no rooms at the hotel/motel when they have a sign saying they have vacancies, like for Germans or Swedes. (They think English with a Swedish accent sounds German. It really doesn't, but they also really hate germans.)

I've gradually narrowed down what topics I can talk freely about and which I have to reload the page to see if the comment sticks. Anything political of course, anything about that thing we had going around for a few years recently, anything about AI, anything against the left, governments, the mainstream media, certain organisations, and a few other topics.

  48. Everything after second wave feminism is greed. Second wave feminism was concerned with equality between the sexes. Third was about blaming men for everything in the world even the slightest bit displeasing to women. Fourth wave, intersectionalism, co-mingled it with race and social class. And men just let it happen because we instinctively want to help and please women. We bent over backwards until our collective backs snapped. That's why so many man are giving up on women as a whole. The expectations are sky high, any fault makes you ineligible. If you aren't perfect, you aren't good enough. 52% of women 30+ in the UK are single and childless. That's representative of most western countries. That's extinction levels, not population crash levels.
