We tend to rename anything and everything we use to fit it into our organization system. I will say that I have a fondness for some of our names that sound silly in English. Like Ksp, kulspruta, lit. "bullet sprayer." As for melting down retired arms, in difference to the US we aren't too fond of our retired military weapons ending up in the hands of criminals or terrorists. I wouldn't call that unfortunate.

"An army of those telekenisis guy would be unstoppable." Nohohohohoho, those guys are very, very far from dangerous. Two or three artillery/tank shells each would probably take care of them, or a squad or three of Imperial Guard. They are at best strong delta or weak gamma level psykers. Long chargeup times for their telekinetic push and one of them can't even hold a single space marine still. For psykers they are pushovers. A beta would likely have killed all of them in seconds or they might have gotten lucky and only lost a few marines. A single beta psyker that is, two would have slaughtered them. An alpha or alpha primaris might have melted their ship when it entered the star system, or mind controlled them, along with the billions of people in the star system, or even multiple star systems over many light years. Psykers are baaaad news.

It's because both Japan and the US did not want to shine a light on it, or the fact that the people behind Unit 731 were largely pardoned for their crimes in difference to the worst people in Germany. Every German at least knows of Mengele. Almost no Japanese person knows about Unit 731, or any of their other atrocities in the war. The schools avoid it like the plague.
