"no drama and entitled users" of Apple? Was he high writing this? Apple, entitlement, and drama go together like apple pie and vanilla ice cream. "No matter how much we did, how many impossible feats we pulled off, people always wanted more." That's called being successful. The only time people stop wanting more is when the project is dead. Also, Brodie, on the earlier point about "you are one person asking," you are thinking about it backwards. You are trying to ask literally several cities worth of people to change their behavior from what is normal for humans, for the sake of one person. That's complete insanity. You cannot expect the entire world to change itself for your sake, that will never, EVER happen. What you can do is change one person, the only person you actually have the power and ability to change. Yourself. Change how you view people asking for features. It's not people being entitled, it's people being impressed with what you have managed to do already and suggesting what you should do next.

@LinuxIsForAll 10 had a fair few when it was new, but most of those were fixed with updates over the years. Not the telemetry ones but the compatability issues and bugs.

I don't care if they get money, I care if they store or give out my data. There is not a single piece of my data that Mozilla needs to have, much less share it. If they mean "in order to comply with legal requirements" they should say that, not start qualifying what "sale" means. If they say "we grant ourselves the permission to sell your data, but we won't" I don't trust them.

The funniest thing about all of this is the explosive reactions of Rusties. If it was any other language the people who code in it would either shrug their shoulders and move on, in which case it would die like every other flash in the pan "news" headline that's inaccurate about programming that gets corrected when people actually learn the language, or they would join in on shitting on the language. Not Rusties though, they can't have people saying inaccurate things about their precious baby. 🤣 Edit: To be clear, I don't have a horse in this race, I'm not a programmer. I am just amused at the differing reactions between people who mainly program in one language versus those who mainly use another. It's like watching a nature documentary.

@ shrug Not what I'm seeing from the outside, but that might be due to recommendation algorithm differences and the channels I watch. In any case, I just find amusement in the differences I see.

@momentomori1747 It is a blight only when the website makes it one. A simple "only necessary cookies" button next to the "accept all" button that instantly removes the banner it is easy to implement, and plenty of websited do exactly that. The websites that require you to toggle half a dozen, or more, boxes are websites you should be suspicious of. I find it a useful way to give a website a quick sniff test to see if they are assholes or not.

Why haven't we upgraded? Because Win 8 and 8.1 is optimized for touchscreen, Win 10 was garbage on launch and has since upgraded to semi-functional garbage, Win 11 is a virus, and we don't want Linux. I've tried Linux, and I hated it. I didi it specifically because Win 7 was so old, and I just hated it. If I could I would have stayed with Win XP. I loved XP.

@GYTCommnts Considering that they spent 2% of their funding on Firefox, meaning that even with the loss of the Google contract (80% of their funding) they could still afford to spend just as much on Firefox as they have been. They haven't cared about Firefox for a long time. To quote one of the Mozilla founders when he found out about these TOS and AUP updates, "W T F"

Trust me, we in Europe feel the same. It's a lot more "da fuq" nowadays though. The last useful thing I can remember them doing was the GDPR in 2016 (implemented in 2018). Since then it's been pure garbage only. I'm sure there's some obscure useful thing that they've done, but I sure haven't heard about anything I'd consider positive since then. At this point I'm more on the "dissolve the damned thing, it's a failed experiment" side.

@thespider7898 If only it was just Russians. . . It's anyone who isn't far left in a lot of cases. Or anyone who is a white or asian man. Granted, the last one is specific to Debian, not the Linux kernel, but the fact of the matter is that a LOT of Linux projects overall are kicking out or refusing help from a lot of people. I am reminded of openSUSE's "purge" (their word) of people who's politics they don't agree with (Nazis is the term they used, but I'm pretty sure not a single person was an actual national socialist advocating for eugenics and the genocide of jews). openSUSE famously can't find three people willing to be on their board and have postponed voting three times because of it. Face it, Linux (and many other open source) projects bring this on themselves.

In French you cut the word in half and don't pronouce what's left the way it's usually pronounced 50% of the time. It's the Russian roulette of languages and deserves every ounce of mockery it gets.

@MattiasA-t5l I'd say it's the other way around personally, they've changed the pronunciation so many times that it makes no sense in a lot of cases, you just have to use rote memorization to remember all the words that are spelled nothing like they are pronounced. Regardless of which way you look at it, the practical effect is that reading French has next to nothing to do with speaking French. It is a terrible language. That's why I like Spanish. Almost everything follows the rules of pronunciation, exceptions being very rare.
