  2. A crutch, no matter if it's weed, alcohol, nicotine, obsessive hobbies, or anti-depressants, will remain a crutch. There are times when you do actually need a crutch, but you can't keep using it forever. Once your metaphorical leg has healed enough to walk on you should, because not doing it will just make it even harder once you do let go of the crutch.

  4.  @Domn879  No worries man. With 156 replies it's inevitable that at least some of those will be from a-holes, and those tend to stick in your mind a lot more than neutral or positive replies. I also could have worded my reply to be clearer. I remember when I posted a comment that got almost 500 replies. (Most I've ever gotten.) About halfway through those replies a flamewar started between two people that lasted for about two weeks. In the end maybe a quarter of all those replies were those two bickering. I had half a mind to just delete my orignial comment so I wouldn't have to keep seeing notifications about them bickering and name calling each other.

  6. A lot of this has been loosely known "in the community" for decades through sheer mass of anecdotal evidence, stereotypes, and general sharing of experiences. However, since it was demonized to such ridiculous degrees there's always been a motivation to and an unspoken agreement to keep it "in the community" so as to not give the fearmongers real ammunition in addition to the outrageous lies they spread. As for teen users, anything that messes with the brain is a bad idea because it's still developing and disrupting the natural development will screw you up to a lesser or greater degree.

  8. Pandemics and nuclear war are not great threats, insane ideologies not grounded in reality are the real problem. The nukes don't fly as long as no one in power is so free of sanity or ethics that they would push the button.
