  2. Dorian Shades of gray. Who really sings the national anthem? The president? You? Me? She doesn’t sing for the reasons I stated above. Now, “Anthems”. Do you know why and how they originated? Why such awful melodies were chosen? Many are outdated and no longer reflect the spirit in which they were written. Many descendants of slaves think it is unreasonable to be forced to sing songs with lyrics that glorify slavery before sporting events. Rapinoe has reasons of her own but has said she is in solidarity. Her team did not lose or draw a match on the way to winning the World Cup and has secured her place as a great, and now she has joined the ranks of the world’s elites in the pursuit of international peace, justice and sport.

  3. Dorian Shades of gray, my opinions don’t matter. And using an analogy, ...many people profess their love for their partner while cheating on them. Token displays are just that! Doing a particular hand gesture or shouting a slogan or singing a song doesn’t make you patriotic. She seems to have a desire to be great, on and off the field! As people on here say, ‘Time will tell’. But she has won 2 World Cups, Olympic golds (2?) she is the Pele of the women’s game. We should be applauding her great achievements and wishing her well for the future. America needs her, and not just the young girls coming up but girls the world over and by proxy, America. But haters will hate I suppose.
