Constantly replenishing the nutrients in the soil that the plants consume - that's the purpose of natural fertilizers with organic matter, like compost, manure, etc. You can also use fish fertilizer and work it into the ground, or even molasses. Conversational farming practices of only applying NPK is like feeding ONLY fast food to a person. They might still be alive, but they are not healthy.
