Thanks again Lewis! I remember when those Jingtong sets came to market because of the laughter and derision the name created. My collection consisted of early 90's hand held radios from the "Big 3" which I could not afford at the time but had become affordable in later years. The Icom IC-32AT (what a brick!) dual bander and Yaesu FT-530 are two examples I still have, the quality of which remain unsurpassed by any Chinese radio of late. The Wouxun KG-UV8D and Ailunce HD-1 are the current Chinese favourites of mine. The quality of the Chinese gear is definitely getting better. And since the "Big 3" have chosen to ignore the popularity of DMR, they have left that market segment wide open for new players.
