@Thunderbyrd. So, exercising my Constitutional rights is being uncooperative and disrespectfull? That belief is why we are in danger of becoming a police state. Your comment is a false dilemma fallacy. I want officers to be the professionals they are supposed to be, respect the rights of all citizens, and stop letting egos dictate their actions. Freedom is scary. Absolute safety is tyranny. Just because there is crime, that's not an excuse to violate the rights of free citizens. The root cause of rampant crime needs to be addressed, which is primarily, in my opinion, the moral and cultural rot infesting our civilization. We have eschewed spiritualism for materialism and scientism.

@Achillies1632 I think one of the primary issues with law enforcement is the lack of accountability (whether real or perceived). In many cases of egregiously illegal or unethical acts by law enforcement, they are not disciplined. If police were to be held to the same standards as private citizens, I think trust of LE with the general public would quickly improve. When you have publicized cases like Karen Gardner, Daniel Shaver, Tony Timpa, etc, and the officers involved receive little to no punishment, it enrages the public and destroys in seconds any trust they enjoyed, and this has profound ripple effects in the relationship between LE and the communities they serve.

@TruthwillPrevail7938 It seems like it because the media amplifies it and it's infested our institutions, but the hard working backbone of the country hasn't bowed to it, and I have faith we never will. We will lose some battles, but we will eventually win the war.

@Achillies1632 Why do they handle those cases? If he broke the law like any other person, why wasn't he/she criminally charged by the DA? My understanding is that police are subject to the civilian justice system, which makes them civilians.

@Achillies1632 Was the guy who was fired charged with perjury or lying on a report (assuming the lie was on an official report)? Did the police union step in and defend him? Did he get a job at another department after he was fired? These are the types of things that routinely happen with bad cops. In my opinion, the institution of law enforcement is broken and it needs to be overhauled to restore the public's trust. Things like unions, training, culture, policy, accountability systems, recruiting, qualified immunity, etc, all need to be reviewed and changed, if necessary, to be more focused on the safety of the public and respect for human life. What really gets me is when a person is simply exercising their Constitutional rights to their fullest extent, some officers will falsely call them "sovereign citizens" or "uncooperative." Since when is exercising my rights, uncooperative? It's really a sad state of affairs when you consider what the US is supposed to be all about. I really get a kick out of some of the "officer safety" excuses that some cops use. I saw one incident where six cops with guns, tasers, batons, pepper spray and 30lbs of body armor and tactical gear were scared of a guy standing there in nothing but wet swimming trunks.
