Well, if he just ran from the police, that's not a reason to use deadly force.

@garywjensen1 I do know about adrenaline and stressful moments. You shouldn't make assumptions about people you don't know.

Hello Just to clarify, my position is that simply running from police is not a justified reason to open fire. Of course, if the suspect represents an imminent threat of mortal danger to police or the public, they are justified in using sufficient force necessary to stop the threat.
2
It doesn't change the fact that all eight cop's emptied their clips. It's still utterly ridiculous.
2
I'm really sick and tired of our side taking up for cops even when they've done wrong. Just stop it, or you're no better than a leftist. Sorry, but no. Sixty rounds is far too many rounds. Why would even one officer empty his clip, let alone all eight. The threat was eliminated long before their clips were emptied.

Hello Says the law and the use of force standards.
1
@PeteH0121 Unlikely, yes, but it can, and does, happen.
1
Hello LOL. In the words of Greta Thunberg, "How dare you!!" Biden voter? Me? Oh my. That's about the worst assumption one can make of another person. I voted for Trump twice and went to the Jan 6 rally to support the protest against election manipulation.

@jot8000 Would you approve if a shot a cop 100 times if he was trying to murder me?
1
@jordanbruner3714 I guess you defend this as well: "Police claimed shots were fired at them as Russell and Williams drove by a squad car; however, this was their vehicle backfiring. Over 60 officers participated in a 23-mile police chase that ended in Russell and Williams' vehicles being surrounded. The victims had no weapon on them and police claimed they fired due to being fired at. Thirteen police officers fired at Russell and Williams 137 times while they were in their car at a parking lot of a middle school, killing both. In May 2014, one of the officers involved, Michael Brelo, was charged with two counts of voluntary manslaughter, and was acquitted by a Cuyahoga County judge of the charges on May 23, 2015."
1
@jordanbruner3714 I think you mean "moot," not "mute." Yes, it's a different situation, but what is your opinion on it? Do you defend the cops in that case? Just trying to figure out if you are a truly objective person, or a bootlicker who defends any and all actions by cops.
1
@jordanbruner3714 I agree they were justified in self defense, but I think the amount of force was unnecessary.
1
@egobrain6826 I explained why. To determine if someone is a bootlicker or not. Bootlickers will defend any actions taken by cops, whether illegal or not.
1
@egobrain6826 It's not about caring, it's about the law and what is reasonable. Using emotions to justify actions is a very dangerous road.
1
@jordanbruner3714 Understood. Fair enough, and thank you. Sorry, I don't mean to come off like a cop hater, I'm really not, I've just witnessed some truly bad acts committed by police. I hate the fact that bad cops tarnish the reputation of the good ones. I agree that those 8 cops were justified in killing the suspect, it's just difficult for me to accept that 90 shots is reasonable. That's almost a full mag for each cop.
1
@Archimedes616 I do. I've been in a gunfight, have you?
1
@koreyb Ok. Thanks.
1
@rocketfamilykml2528 You're right, but I don't really use it in a derogatory manner, it's just a term I use to describe one's tendency to always defend police regardless of their conduct.
1
@rocketfamilykml2528 I agree. I'm the same way. My apologies.
1
What if a cop in uniform ran up to your car and starting shooting at you for no reason, what would you do if you were armed? I hope you would shoot back.
1
Cops have killed completely innocent and unarmed people. People have killed violent cops in lawful self defense. There are plenty of bad, trigger happy cops who will use even the slightest justification to kill people. The kind of people who gravitate to police jobs are generally people with a low self esteem who use their badge and gun to compensate...this is a dangerous combination. When a cop pops out the shoulder of a 77 year old women with dementia, and then laughs about it and says "I love it," that is not an exception. Good cops who really want to serve the public are the exceptions.
1
It doesn't change the fact that he was shot sixty times (if that is actually the truth). Eight cops emptying their clips really doesn't make it look any better.
1
@UncleButterworth Clips, mags, yes, I know they are different, but I use them interchangeably when context is not needed. I probably own more guns than you. You cannot infer my beliefs and values from my refusal to blindly defend the police or because I don't bow to the desecrated blue line flag. Keep in mind, most police will stomp on your rights without a second thought if ordered to do so by the "ruling elite."
1
Agreed, and there are also those who will defend police no matter what they do.
1
I'm sure some people in the community are concerned about why 90 rounds were fired.
1
Would you support getting rid of judges and juries and just allowing the police to kill anyone they suspect of committing a crime?
1
Question for those who defend these cops. If these 8 cops were private citizens in an identical situation, would you have the same position? If yes, great. If no, I ask that you look up the nine principles of modern policing and then tell me why you would have a different position.
1
In regards to this shooting itself, they were justified; however, firing 90 rounds is absolutely ridiculous and demonstrates a dangerous lack of restraint. Let me ask this. If there were a group of 8 people fishing on a pier, all legally armed, and some guy walks up, pulls out a firearm, and shoots one of the fishermen, and at that point, all 8 drew their firearms and emptied their mags into the shooter. Would the district attorney charge them, or would they be cleared?
1
@jackall-trades6149 If someone is loudly banging on my door at 3am, the first thing I do is grab my 44. I would think that's common sense.
1
@stitchjones4028 You could have an encounter with a trigger happy cop without committing a crime.
1
@adam551982 There are plenty trigger happy psycho cops and cops who love to frame people for crimes. Cops like Phil Brailsford and Zach Wester are two great example. Emptying your mag long after the threat has been eliminated shows a lack of restraint and a desire to engage in violence. I'm sure many cops are as you claim, but many are as I claim as well.
1
@jackall-trades6149 I would still have my firearm close by, since anyone could say they are police. I've actually been targeted (well, he attempted to target me) by a person claiming himself to be a cop, he had a badge on a chain around his neck. He claimed he was working for the "auto theft task force." Long story short, he was arrested and charged.
1
@jackall-trades6149 Thank you.
1
Not 60 times.
1
@Rizzob17 It doesn't change anything in my opinion. Once the threat is eliminated, you stop. You don't continue firing until your mag is empty when you know the guy has been struck multiple times. It those cops were private citizens, would you still defend them?
1
Are you saying that any person who doesn't obey the demands of a cop should be killed? If a 79 year old dementia patient didn't listen to the directives of the cops, should she be beaten and have her arm pulled from its socket?
1
That's not a good enough answer. If a private citizen shot someone 28 times, they would be questioned as to why the excessive use of force.
1
Huwite ppl tend to "bang bang" at police more than black people, that's why. But I agree that 60 rounds is ridiculous.
