@jot8000 I wouldn't go so far to say he's evil, but certainly disturbed. He should have been in prison getting mental health treatment...he could have gotten help while innocent people wouldn't have been exposed to the danger he posed.

@jamesvincent5875 Conservatives are supposed to have empathy and compassion for others. We are supposed to be the ones who support, defend, and live by noble values. We can have empathy for people while at the same time being firm and holding people accountable. You being mentally compromised has nothing to do with it. You are not him. You don't know what this person has experienced in his life. I'm not saying we shouldn't defend ourselves from an aggressive person or that his actions should be excused, but we don't have to go around saying things like "good riddance," "he was useless," or "he's trash." Just because he may not be fit for society doesn't mean that he couldn't have gotten help and become fit. We are supposed to care for the least among us. Like I said in my earlier comment, his death resulted from his own actions...of course we have the right to defend ourselves from dangerous people, whether they are mentally ill or not; my point is that we can still have some compassion for them. Our country is falling apart morally and culturally, and while most of it is coming from the left, there are a lot of conservatives who are contributing to it.

@connilady57 I don't disagree with your comment, all I'm saying is that we should have some compassion. I can have compassion for this person while also agreeing that his own actions resulted in his demise and that the Marine acted heroically.

@jot8000 It depends on the motive. People with schizophrenia aren't necessarily evil. People who take SSRIs and do things they normally wouldn't do, aren't necessarily evil. The devil, so to speak, is in the details. Details matter, not headlines.

@kaizokujimbei143 People are complex, no person is all good or all bad; that's a very juvenile way of looking at the world. I have an extremely bad temper, I will punch holes in walls and cuss people out, but I also will go to the ends of the Earth to help my friends or family. Jesus had compassionate for everyone, including criminals. So, your good vs bad paradigm is ridiculous on its face.
