The Senate represent the states, that's why it uses the popular vote. The popular vote for president would render many more votes worthless, since only about 4 or 5 states would matter.

  12.  @tracyripple  No, only densely populated cities in large states would matter while the rest of the country would not be represented. The presidential election is designed such that a large cross section of national interests are represented. We are not a democracy, we are a republic in that we don't govern by mob rule. The US Senate elections are by popular state vote, which offset any potential imbalance of the electoral college system.

The US will never change to the popular vote for the president, and if it ever did, tyranny of the majority would eventually lead to civil war. Study your history.
