One of the foremost constitutional theorists of the founding generation, John Adams, observed, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." He wasn’t the only Founding Father to hold this view. Indeed, James Madison wrote that our Constitution requires “sufficient virtue among men for self-government,” otherwise, “nothing less than the chains of despotism can restrain them from destroying and devouring one another.”

@1Biswet Clearly, I said that our founding principles are based on Christian tenets and natural law. Most of our founders were Christian, and as such, Christianity played a role in influencing the forming of our government. And it's a very true statement that the Constitution cannot work unless the people who live by it are virtuous.

@masonhunter2921 There is no such thing as separation of church and state in the Constitution, only that Congress is precluded from establishing a state religion. The founders feared government control of religion, but history shows that our founders never objected to religious activity or symbols in the public square. Many of the SCOTUS rulings which support the abolishment of religion from the public square are antithetical to the founders' understanding of religious liberty. Atheists and Marxists who continue to seek the destruction of religion successfully petitioned the Supreme Court to expand the Establishment Clause to advance this goal. As scientism and maternalism continue to grow, and thereby leave no room for spiritualism, we will become an immoral and soulless people; tyranny will then be justified in keeping the peace. If the people have no core shared values by which they conduct themselves and live their lives, then morality becomes relative and meaningless, and this permits every destructive act to be justified. In my personal view, science and religion are not mutually exclusive. They can be synergized with the correct approach. As a former scientist who believes that an intelligence is responsible for the creation of the universe(s), I have been able to blend these two concepts with surprisingly little conflict.

@masonhunter2921 Our government was already degenerated, Donald Trump simply exposed it. While I do agree that Donald Trump is not the best example of morality, he does possess redeeming qualities that lend themselves well to the situation in which our country finds itself. We all have flaws and skeletons in our closets, it's just that his are on full display, and some of them are embellished and misrepresented by his detractors. The corruption and evil is embedded so deep within our bureaucracy that it cannot be resolved through the normal course of business, namely voting, legislation, and oversight.
