@joebidendagoat That's just a blatantly false statement. There are two clauses, one for the militia, and one for the public. Every person has the natural right to self defense, don't be dense.

@dotmarceo Yes, we do need those types of guns. The people are supposed to be able to own the same handguns and rifles used by the military and the police.

@stevestults1111 It's because there is no due process. Some guy who has a beef with you can call the police and lie to get your guns taken away, whether it's temporarily is irrelevant. And then you have to go to a hearing to "show cause" why your gun should be returned. That's unconstitutional.

If you think the US military would follow Brandon's orders to fire on their own parents, children, spouses and friends, I think that's absurd. Some would, most wouldn't. The US couldn't even defeat Afghanistan or Vietnam, so there is no chance against 100 million armed citizens engaging in guerilla warfare and assisted by factions of the military who despise Brandon.

@dotmarceo No, it is absolutely correct. Read the federalist papers, it will help you to understand the intent of the Constitution.

@dotmarceo Congress and state legislatures may only propose amendments, but 2/3rds of the states musf ratify them to be added to the Constitution...very difficult to do.

@dotmarceo Again, some of the US military would not fire upon citizens. As citizens are their own families. A lot of the military would side with the people against a tyrannical government.

@williamfranz9872 It would depend on the reason for the domestic insurgency. But I'm not really talking about a minor insurgency, I'm talking about the people rising up against a government that's gone rogue. And you're forgetting that the military are family and friends of citizens. The military would break into factions, with some supporting the citizens. If 10 million citizens revolted because the government attempted to seize all weapons from US citizens in a gross violation of the Constitution, most of the military would side with the people. If a fight broke out between the entire military and the entire population of US citizens, the military would have no chance just by sheer numbers. In general, it wouldn't be as neat and tidy as you think it would be. You need to consider dozens of critical factors and variables. For example, citizens are not just a bunch of sheep sitting around waiting to be slaughtered, there are doctors, all kinds of engineers, technical specialists, builders, veterans (former generals, lieutenants, colonels, infantryman, pilots, communication specialist, etc). A tremendous amount of talent and expertise which could organize a gigantic fighting force. Do you know who supplies US military bases?
