Any reasonable and objective person can see this is all politically motivated and is not grounded on ethical and moral principles.

It has nothing to do with being his turn, Trump needs to win to show the permanent bureaucracy and the media that their lies, insults, shaming, and gaslighting doesn't work. Choosing DeSantis would be a victory for the bureaucracy and media, because it would confirm their belief that the voters are still vulnerable to accepting their lies as objective truth.
