@popjaw1andOnly So you condone law enforcement behaving this way? Maybe cops earn a lot of the hate from their egregious misbehavior and gross violations of citizens' 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. There was absolutely no lawful reason to pull this person over, and the cop let him go because he knew he screwed up.

@JT-sl3ui If you approve of cops going around violating rights and using their badges as licenses to break the law, then you understand that's why police earn the hate. People disdain hypocrites and bullies. Does the police academy still teach the nine principles of modern policing? Do they still teach that the safety of the public supersedes the safety of the officer? I bet they don't.

@godbyone You don't know if any of that is true. But giving the middle finger to a cop is freedom of speech. If a cop retaliates for someone exercising a Constitutional right, that's illegal, it's called deprivation of rights under color of law.

@godbyone If the cops wouldn't respond to the insults, they will stop insulting them. If a cop cannot rise above childish insults, then maybe he should find another line of work.

@JT-sl3ui You would agree that you going home safe every night is not the highest priority, right? I would hope that if your commanding officer or superior gave you an order which would violate the Constitutional rights of a private citizen, that you would refuse even if that meant losing your job. I also hope that you would stop fellow officers from using excessive force or from violating Constitutional rights, even if that fellow officer is a superior. Your job, your paycheck, and your pension do not come before your oath to the Constitution. "Police safety is cowardice, public safety is heroism."

But let me add that with the pervasiveness of cameras in the modern era, the poor behavior of a large segment of law enforcement is now being made public, and I'm sure this has contributed significantly to the increase in negative attitudes towards police. In my opinion, the entire institution of law enforcement needs to be overhauled. Police must set an example, they must be professional, and they need to understand how their actions will be perceived by the public. Police need the support of the public in order to do their jobs, and with every incident of hypocrisy, excessive use of force, writing false reports, etc, that trust and support continue to erode. People have a responsibility to ensure their temperament and character are compatible with being a sworn officer. Long ago, I considered the law enforcement occupation, but I decided that my temperament would get me into trouble. I know that I couldn't remain professional when confronting real scumbags, like people who rape or kill children.

@godbyone An admission under threat isn't evidence. Whatever the person did, that does not justify the cop to act with such profound unprofessionalism. His unhinged rant demonstrated mental instability, he should have taken a day off if he was that stressed out. We should not be excusing abuse by cops simply because we don't like the actions of the person being abused. If we normalize that behavior, then every person will be at risk.

@ausername7470 He pulled him over for flipping him the middle finger. That is a first amendment protected right. Had he continued with the arrest, the charges would have been dropped and he would have been sued.

@madarchermoto4955 I think the cop in this video was suspended indefinitely (I guess that means he was basically fired). I just want to say that I think that is going too far, he should have been disciplined, but not fired. I understand that people do have a limit and an isolated outburst is not an indication that he's a bad cop, but if that behavior was a regular occurrence, that would be a different story.

Both parties in this incident were in the wrong, but the cop should remain professional and not allow puerile behavior to get under his skin...he needs to set an example.
