And that was changed. By the way, do you even know why they were counted as 3/5ths of a person? If you don't know why, the answer might surprise you.

Well, it clearly was a racist country, but not now.

Trump to far leftists is like holy water to Satan.

@shankz8854 Some founders did condone slavery, some didn't. History cannot be distilled down to right and wrong, it is far more complex and nuanced than race baiters and exploiters make it out to be.
2
@Urijah1287 They were counted as 3/5ths so the slave states would have reduced representation in Congress, therefore, giving slave states less power. This was part of the goal to abolish slavery. It was not intended to value slaves as less than human.
2
@shankz8854 Did anyone ask the slaves what they thought about it, considering the objective? I didn't say it was to abolish slavery, but it was one of the tactics used to reduce the legislative power of slave states. My original point is that many people continue to assert that they were counted as 3/5ths because they were not viewed as human beings, and that's simply not the case...at least among the free states.

You're right to a small degree.

@devo2 Didn't you know, being anti-White is now acceptable. Anti-whiteism is rapidly spreading...I can't wait until this backfires on the far left extremists.

What exactly do you see everyday?

Isolated pockets of racism will always exist because of human nature, but the US is no longer a racist country.

Oh no, don't bring up those very inconvenient facts.

Blacksplaining isn't any better.

The Declaration of Independence is the mission statement, what the US strives to become. And we were making progress until Obama, Biden, the media, and globalists began using cultural Marxism to reignite the division.

@loki2240 Yep, that's right. At the time, it was the only viable method to take power away from those who wanted to protect slavery. So, you'd rather have slaves count as 100% and allow slave state to have more representation and power? Most people don't cut off their noses to spite their faces.
1
@loki2240 Counting a slave as 3/5ths did not increase their physical torment, but it reduced the power of slave states, and this was part of the overall goal to abolish slavery. To continue to claim that this country is foundationally racist in the present, is simply false. There are, of course, isolated pockets of racism, and that's a symptom of the human nature of tribalism. Question for you. Out of the last 300K people hired by S&P 100 companies, over 94% were "people of color." Are you going to point out the obviously anti-White hiring practices?
1
@RicardoSilvas-uq6wn The only systemic racism today is anti-White racism, aka DEI.
