Terry's husband was a loser.

Terry picked the wrong dude. In the USA, it's considered the woman's fault for picking wrong, not the dude' fault for being a loser. Working hard by itself isn't enough. You have to be able to save and invest.

@BadNewsfor154 18 is legal. This was 30+years ago. People were adults earlier.

@BadNewsfor154 This story started DECADES ago when single income families and teen marriages were normal. She was from a traditional family and brought up to accept the wife role. Yes, it's a bad idea for a woman to rely on a husband's income. It's better for a woman to make, save and invest her own money (and be called an absentee mother) than to risk relying on a man (and be called a lazy welfare queen if he fails to provide).

@manchesterunitedakamrtread8317 You can make yourself an IRA every year at an investment company or bank, depositing an amount up to the yearly contribution limit. (Where you go to set it up will affect the options for what investments you can put in it). When you leave your job, your 401k turns into an IRA which you can put at whatever investment company you want and pick whatever mutual funds or stocks you want in it.

@FromDesertTown Sounds like you already know you're delusional. Work hard, live frugally, invest wisely and be as self-reliant as possible. Don't fall for the same BS the broke boomers did and count on a "cultural revolution" to make things easy for you. Nobody's going to throw money at you because of your unique loving personhood when there are 8 BILLION more like you!

@Gizziiusa Those homeless teens need to put up with the corrupt BS at a shelter, get a job and save every penny until they can buy a vehicle to live in and get into some kind of job training. THEN they can start clawing their way up the ladder to the job with the 401k. Even a fast food worker can set up an IRA and not pay taxes on the $ they put in.

@randymillhouse791 Wow, congratulations! Max that 401k out ( not just to the match level) and do an IRA on the side if you can. Don't let the lifestyle creep get to you.

@BadNewsfor154 Was your mother from a traditional background where a woman's choices were either wife or nun?
1
@BadNewsfor154 Don't you understand this is " same planet different worlds? 😂 The white lady in the documentary is from a traditional, Catholic family. The "right" thing she was taught to do was to be a wife and mother. Or else a nun. She wasn't taught to be a career woman, not settle for a man making less than 6 figures, and get a pre-nup! The black lady in the documentary was far more "fake it til you make it" and risk taking, but luckily she had a husband that stuck around to take care of her.

@BadNewsfor154 Well, what's your point, then? That Terry should have been psychic and not done what she was trained to do?
