(Where you go to set it up will affect the options for what investments you can put in it).When you leave your job, your 401k turns into an IRA which you can put at whatever investment company you want and pick whatever mutual funds or stocks you want in it.

Don't fall for the same BS the broke boomers did and count on a "cultural revolution" to make things easy for you. @Gizziiusa Those homeless teens need to put up with the corrupt BS at a shelter, get a job and save every penny until they can buy a vehicle to live in and get into some kind of job training. THEN they can start clawing their way up the ladder to the job with the 401k. Even a fast food worker can set up an IRA and not pay taxes on the $ they put in.
