@Bette_B123 I don't know all those other people. I don't think he made a gross misinterpretation. Based on what I've seen, JKR's past tweets, it's only the most extreme of activists that she doesn't support. I wouldn't be surprised if their animosity against her positions (which used to be regarded as common sense) pushes her more toward the political right. I'm against the whole guilt by association thing on principle. We all have to buy things, work somewhere and invest somewhere if we hope to retire. If someone gets backlash just for being filmed talking to someone of a different opinion, that's just going to shut down all public debate.

The student should have hired someone else to tutor her if the one professor was hard to understand or didn't like her. What's a little more $$$ for a tutor when you've already sunk tons into med school?

No, if you want a more equitable outcome, you just get more people to volunteer by promoting opportunities in that career within the group that needs to increase. Everybody was "recruited" in some way, either by seeing commercials or seeing their family members doing that job for a living, or by being offered a scholarship. The line between volunteering and recruitment is VAGUE! (Unless there's a draft for some position and people are forced into it.)

@n1r0l Teachers and Professors are human beings with biases. Didn't you ever experience a "Snape"? There are people who tutor MCAT for a living. The point is to learn, not to make it work with a professor when you don't get along or they lecture in a weird, incomprehensible way.

This guy is discounting social pressure and expectations! People still think in terms of some jobs being for some races or genders. People don't apply where they feel they "don't belong".

@sa9861 What "facts" do you expect to get about people's attitudes? The results of a sociological survey? Then you could blow that off as " just a bunch of people's feelings". Social pressure and role models are real. People are not "Vulcans". They make job decisions based on role models and emotional factors such as whether they like security or want to take risks for a potential greater reward. Some people are rebels and others like being seen as "good" so they conform to social roles they don't personally like.
