  2.  @Mind_Breach  Yeah, the employer can't just "take" a license. There's more to the story. Maybe the OP was too broke to pay a licensing fee and let it expire? It's pretty normal for jobs to have certain health requirements. For example, even prior to (0\/|D, hospital staff had to undergo regular TB testing with followup X-rays to make sure their TB wasn't active if their test was positive.

The reasons to avoid school teaching have nothing to do with pensions. The class sizes are high and the parents complain when the students are disciplined.

  19.  @ey67  Hedge your investments. Pay off home (rent a room out if you have to). Stock your pantry. Bank your emergency fund at the highest interest you can find. Only invest what you can afford to lose, preferably in a broad-market stock or bond index fund, inside a tax-advantaged retirement fund.

  23.  @beckyjones3578  Find out the food bank distribution schedule for your area and what documentation you have to bring,if you haven't already. Learn to garden/forage. Sprouting grains or lentils is easy with just a glass jar or two and will give you a source of fresh greens that you can add to soup or stir fry. Move into the warmest room in your home for the winter and heat that room only. If you can set up a mattress in an interior walk in closet, that's ideal. If not,push your bed into the corner of two interior walls and rig a blanket canopy over it. You may be able to get by with only space heating while you're not resting in bed. Make sure the space heater's located where no blankets or curtains can fall on it.
