Really? How about Norway or any of the Nordic countries? Public education, subsidized nutrition and public health care levels the playing field.

@gregsmith7949 The quality of life is higher when the cash isn't concentrated in the hands of a few. Even if the "average" net worth is higher in the country where the few mega-rich guys are averaged in with the masses of peasants.

@JKBelle Income tax and property tax are AT LEAST progressive taxes (which take more from those who can afford more). This makes them a LESSER EVIL than sales taxes and license fees, which hit the poor the hardest.

@BQQSTN8 You pay the landlord's property tax for him when you rent. They should do away with restrictions on maintaining your own vehicle. It's another thing if it's a business with traffic backing up in the neighborhood.

@Kv-pv9gm Gas tax pays for HIGHWAYS, not foreign aid. If Putin takes Ukraine, he'll own all the fuel they produce. The price will be what he wants. Euro countries will bid against us for gas and we'll see some real high prices.

That would be a break for the RICH who own multiple properties. A national sales tax ban on food, medication, non luxury clothing and building materials would be more beneficial to the masses.

@sealtrick2517 This is why you put money in a couple low cost stock or bond index funds, inside a tax advantaged retirement account such as a 401k or IRA. You save on taxes and get your money working for you so your rate of earnings is greater than the rate of inflation.

@AB-ou8ve Property tax is still somewhat progressive in that it's based on the value of the property. Poor people don't usually live in mansions. A lot of counties freeze taxes at the same rate on the primary residence once owners turn 65 because they don't want the old people to lose their homes.

@prettybarbie9273 Income tax is more progressive because of the brackets, buy not every state has an income tax. Sales tax would be the worst option because high sales taxes drive away customers, resulting in job losses in the retail, then shipping and manufacturing sectors.

@sushicat56 If LARGE businesses that weren't in trouble fraudulently took out loans meant to help small businesses, then that's PROSECUTION for crime, not "persecution". Every case is different.

@virginia_in_the_rearview I agree, there should be a nationwide ban on taxing food, vitamin supplements, and medication. There are still places in the USA that tax grocery food. But don't pretend taxation is the reason food and medication prices are high. Expect the price of meds to rise since Biden 's pharmaceutical company reforms have been eliminated. Get ready to pay more for your meat and produce as well, as the farm workers get deep ported.

@virginia_in_the_rearview That's how it works, every time money changes hands. Do you want the government to stop providing stuff continually so they can avoid taxing continually? They continually provide and repair so they need continual income. Plus they're in debt for what they spent already and need to cover the interest.

They can learn to be good citizens and support themselves from the streets! 🤦 It works in fourth world hellholes already, we just need to start doing it here so you can save a couple bucks!

@bigbob3772 People aren't up in arms about "equalizing" type tariffs. They're mad about potential 20, 30, 40% tariffs which would mean trade wars and cost increases ( that would hit the Wal Mart/Harbor Freight/ Dollar Tree shoppers the hardest). Secondly, over-use of State of Emergency to bypass the legislature creates precedent for a "royal" president. (The next guy could be his ideological opposite).

Someone with a paid-for home has options. Renting a room out. Selling and downsizing or (worst case) a reverse mortgage.
