@kristincarr118 More kids= higher population (plus more mechanization)= more competition for jobs. More applicants drives down wages.

Exactly. Competition lowers wages. Plus, the USPS bought employees on credit in the past, with promises of pensions. Now. they're paying out their profits (and then some) to retirees who lived longer than estimated. That's why they've needed bailouts from taxpayers.

@paulradice3534 That aid was the estimated value of old military equipment . Would you rather have it handed to your local cops?

@WilliamClemmer YOU'RE not familiar with the French Revolution. It accomplished little and, not too long after, Napoleon seized power and crowned himself.
2
@brendans1593 The Postal Service is supposed to be self supporting.It's not. It has needed a ton of bail out cash. DeJoy is there to cut costs. Any raises will come from bailouts. Which you pay for.
2
@drewj4297 Higher population plus mechanization leads to more competition for the remaining jobs. Which leads to lower wages.
2
@stupedcraig Promising pensions is buying workers on credit! USPS needs taxpayer bailouts now because it can't afford all the retiree pensions.
2
@tissuepaper9962 USPS was supposed to be self supporting. US military isn't. Unless you want to legalize looting .

The Postal Service isn't making enough to stay in business without huge government bailouts. They haven't been solvent since 06.Those good wages took place in the days before competition from package delivery services and email.

@sheepmaysafelygraze8360 Get a simple drip coffee maker (NOT KEURIG) and chip in for ground coffee. That same $15 will go a lot further.

@drewj4297 Population is still growing. just at a slower rate than in the past. USA population also grows due to immigration. Mechanization is real. The latest round has been the replacement of storyboard and background artists and writers with AI. Telecommunications have also improved, allowing businesses to outsource clerical work.

@drewj4297 There are different classes of immigrants. The "brain drain" (medical staff, engineers) ARE able to buy houses pretty quickly because they're paid well and used to a frugal 2nd or 3rd world lifestyle. The underclass pack into substandard housing to save money.

@IanJohnson-t4r Well, which do you want? Do you want them to phase out the pensions and keep going or what? They'll pretty much have to if the government quits bailing. If they ceased to exist Fed Ex would cost more because they'd have to assume the cost of the unprofitable routes, plus, they'd be a monopoly.

@MyToxicMasculinity I don't like the "I don't dream of labor" artiste crowd (that aspire to be kept as pets by the government while pursuing their hobbies), either, but it's NOT EVERYBODY! This situation concerns WORKERS. There needs to be some sort of safety net (not a hammock) to prevent people from falling through the cracks.

@IanJohnson-t4r Censorbots are the worst! I heard there are actually broke Kenyans making $2 an hour to train them! Trollies are a part of the ecosystem and should regularly be fed tasty knuckle sandwiches!

@MyToxicMasculinity On some level we'd ALL prefer that hammock, right? To get paid to do what we love, only when we feel like doing it? These are not the guys in the hammocks, though. These are the guys driving little open trucks around in all kinds of crappy weather dealing with crazies. And there's not enough $ for their pensions, when that's why they signed up for the chore!

@MyToxicMasculinity Wow! Your vehicle was LARGER, therefore you win the thingie measuring contest!👍😂🤣 (Meanwhile the mailmen probably think you're a wuss because your cab was heated/air conditioned! ) Your company PAID you to drive, right? If they promised you X amount of pay and however much bonus or raise and then they changed it, you wouldn't be happy. You'd be like the mailmen.

@trixiemcfly8584 Yeah. but it's probably packages and routes that wouldn't be cost effective for Amazon to do themselves! So, taxpayers are bailing out USPS and USPS is helping out Amazon!
1
@KirksCORNER1983 Are you nuts? Do you want Fed Ex to have a monopoly and charge whatever? Plus, Fed Ex is privately owned, so if they don't feel like driving 20 miles down a dirt road to bring grandma her eye drops, they don't have to.
1
@tissuepaper9962 No,they were set up to be self supporting.
1
@trixiemcfly8584 USPS is probably delivering the stuff that it's less profitable for Amazon to do.

@Phenomena7 How are you going to protest Supply and Demand? The POPULATION is higher than in the 50s. You could protest corporate landlords, but good luck with that because they have some very deep pockets. Last election, Black rock donated to Harris while endorsing Trump.

@mysticlegion8088 Not narcissism. PSYCHOSIS.

@stus2159 Competition keeps wages low.

@sheepmaysafelygraze8360 Max out your IRA and 401k. Make sure he maxes out his IRA. It'll cut your taxes. Pensions can be phased out and eligibility ages can be raised.
