@kablah777 I stopped paying for toys and beds and make my own. It's fun and saves $ for food. You can make your own eco-friendly FREE litter using 50% torn strips of paper and 50% dry yard leaves. Line the pan with cardboard, then glossy paper, so that each layer overlaps, then fill. When damp/soiled, put on rubber gloves, roll the waste up like a nasty burrito and dispose (inside a grocery bag that's lined with another grocery bag). Cats love it. If you don't have gloves you can use empty bread sacks as mitts. If you have a cat that kicks the stuff out, switch to 1-2" squares of cardboard box as fill. This will save you more $ for food. You can also try buying them some good dry food and soaking it for 30 minutes prior to serving, so that it's soft in order to stretch your canned food budget.

Some of the South American countries that grow the USA's produce use fertilizer from Ukraine, so they have to get a new source and pay more. Then you have natural disasters such as the TX Panhandle fires and diseases such as avian flu and orange greening disease that affect crops and livestock.

@mvann5 That's just going to result in a bunch of "be your own vet" behavior. You can buy vaccines other than rabies at Tractor Supply and give them yourself. There are also downloadable vet manuals and places online that sell fish antibiotics.

@jupiterthree5228 Learn to garden and forage. Things like lentils are really cheap and you can sprout them and use them for greens. All you need is a glass jar and a source of water.
