  19. @joemama1691  Yes, gold increases in value, but that dollar value's buying power is eroded by inflation constantly. That's why gold is a currency hedge. So, if you bought $2000 worth of gold, and it increased to $4000 worth when you sold it in the future, you'd be able to buy about the same amount of goods as the $2000 would have bought you in the first place. The only way to actually make money would be to buy gold in a time of stability and sell in a time of panic. ( Hard to predict.)

  23. Buying Gasoline/ pereoleum mutual funds. Didn't work as a hedge against recession as they were supposed to. Also should have bought OUTSIDE my retirement account so I could tax loss harvest. But I didn't realize how volatile they would be.
