Rather than saying "I want help from the person most expert" they say "I only want help from someone who looks like me, (whether they know what they're doing or not) because others are out to get me".

I think what they're trying to say (not that I agree with it) is NOT that white Americans don't have individual cultures, such as Irish, German, etc. It's that the African Americans (excluding the recently arrived African country-Americans) have a common heritage because they lived through slavery and segregation and therefore relate to eachother rather than non blacks.

Make sure you continue to make and manage YOUR OWN money. If you decide to stay home you are sacrificing not only what you would have earned, but also your ability to save for retirement in a tax advantaged account, since 401k and IRA are only for earned money. Most older homeless women failed to do this, assuming husband or kids would support them. You're also making it harder on yourself if you have a gap in your work history. It'll be harder to get re-hired and you'll go back at a lower wage than if you'd been working the whole time you were home.
