@mikesteelheart You're better off living below your means at any time or in any financial environment. The higher bank interest rates (as a result of the Fed raising the prime rate to fight inflation) make this a better paying time to save than a few years ago.

@mikasa1279 More things were Made in America in the 50's and 60's, although there were some cheap novelties being made in Japan. As compared to the wages back then, consumer goods, especially anything high tech, were initially MORE expensive than they are today, although many of those products were ultimately a better value because they were built to last. People went out to eat less and owned far less clothing ( a lot of which was made at home). If you feel like things are bad and getting worse then let that be your incentive to work hard, pay off debt, save and invest.
