i am not sure what its like in Portugal but in my country you can find towns within walking distance of the capital that are way cheaper safer and have most of the things you need like jobs shops and so on. the only downside is that the capital speaks another language than the surrounding region so that will make it hard for an immigrant (guess the country) i assume its similar in Portugal since its not very big .but i know a lot of people are abandoning the smaller towns i am not sure if its just because of shrinking populations or if there is something wrong with the towns and its not worth moving there even if its super cheap .and i don't know if its affecting the towns close to the capital
