most people are already failing these classes because they don't get to use these languages much outside of school but if they are motivated and smart they can have fun ways to learn at home with things like movies and video games. but in welsh or Gaelic you got nothing like that so 99% of students will fail and start to hate these languages. because all they do is read textbooks and copy pasted metadata instead of something interesting.

@entwistlefromthewho yea but there is nothing worth watching. you can watch some football and poorly dubbed American cartoons and the news.

@klaxoncow not every company does that but in welsh its a big deal since this is their only channel .

@uingaeoc3905 you clearly don't know what runes are go read something
2
it hasn't been alive in canada for over 100 years now
2
Lithuanian grammar makes a lot more sense than welsh or Irish .and the Lithuanian culture is less dull

S4C implemented geo-blocking typical welsh mindset
1
@klaxoncow so basically what i meant was that at least from my experience modern welsh culture has become very bureaucratic and uncreative. they just follow protocol without thinking. geoblocking is the kind of stuff done by people who think its still 1980 and they are broadcasting analogue tv .the welsh language is mostly spoken by people who are either very old and have low standards .or teachers and public servants who only learned it to get a job and don't use it in their free time.

the Celtic languages were just bad
1
and they were already going extinct by the time the Anglo Saxons came anyway .
1
@johnmckiernan2176 have to agree english is bad too. but the Celtic languages are worse every language has weird things like the grammar in Chinese is easy but everything sounds similar. Italian has more logical spelling but strange grammar. but the Celtic languages have all of the bad things from English .but with bunch of additional complications. and the Celtic cultures were already in decline and less advanced anyway its not just about language
1
@johnmckiernan2176 ever heard about this thing called runes?
1
@uingaeoc3905 bro seriously ? do you even know what runes are ? this is not runescape
1
@johnmckiernan2176 yea but it was used by other Germanic languages since the first century. also old Irish doesn't even sound like its related to Irish or any modern Celtic language
1
@johnmckiernan2176 yea you can't understand old english if you are not trained but at least it sounds Germanic. old Irish sounds like latin mixed with random vocabulary
1
@johnmckiernan2176 I was talking about archaic Irish and Irish actually got rid of the Latin like words over the centuries. I tried to learn Irish but gave up when I found out that old Irish is too different. and there was less literature in the 20th and 19th century in Irish than today and it has more speakers now than in the last few centuries. but modern Irish literature and media is unbearable.

horrible

Danish is more useful and fun than all of the Celtic language combined and Danish isn't really that useful or fun.
1
because nobody cared
1
no it only existed for maybe 100 years max not counting the pre roman celts
1
ok but i personally can't learn languages like Esperanto or welsh because they are not fun all you can do with them is read dull textbooks that were copied from another language and maybe the bible and harry potter .at least with french i can watch movies and read books i didn't know already and talk to people who don't know English .
1
@simonpayne7994 yea but most of the Celtic languages started their decline before even the printing press was invented so literature is very rare. and its written in old forms of the language that are totally different from the modern forms and back then they preferred latin . and about Yiddish its interesting because the decline of Yiddish didn't start until ww2. so you had a lot of movies from the 1930s and even older silent films. i hoped the Celtic languages were like. this but turns out there are actually more speakers now than in the 1930s

it will become very boring after a while
